If Ali retires after Manilla, is he still considered #1 all time?

Yes. I was thinking about 1976 lyle Because he fought Foreman in this year. And you are right, young is not a good win because ali lost.

Jesus. Ali looked horrible in this fight and still you have people saying that he would beat Foreman in 1976. Lol no ****ing way. 1976 Ali was a joke champion honestly, i think that Foreman,Norton and even a green Holmes were better than 76 Ali

If you think about it, if Ali had retired after Manila, over the final 12 months (October 1974 to October 1975) of Ali's career ... he would've stopped George Foreman, Ron Lyle, Joe Frazier, and also stopped Wepner, and won a 15-round decision over Bugner ... and retired as undisputed heavyweight champion.

Five fights in 12 months. Including KOs of Foreman, Frazier and Lyle.

    That's a helluva LAST YEAR.

About a 1,000 times better than his actual career ended.

Ali didn't train at all for Young. He considered Young a joke and fought like it. So much of a joke Ali scheduled his fight with Richard Dunn in Germany THREE WEEKS after the Young fight. And he was 10 pounds lighter for Dunn.

Young was an afterthought to him. It's not like he spent months preparing for the fight, like he did for Foreman.

It was the fight of Jimmy Young's life, and it was just another thing to do that day for Ali.

    I agree. He looked terrible.

Which is why I think not having engaged in any of those fights after Frazier III would've improved his all-time status, not hurt it. The fights after Frazier III hurt his status all-time. Not enough to do huge damage, like Roy Jones has done with his, but nothing after 1975 helped Ali's all-time standing. The negatives from 1976-1981 outweighed the positives, significantly.

Probably yes. The same Ali said in an interview he needed to beat Lyle to be considered the greatest
