    LMFAO!!!

No one in HW boxing today has seen anything like Ali. I'd love nothing more to see todays HW's flailing and hitting nothing but air.

Ali based his win on size advantage over the cruiserweights and light heavyweights of the so called golden era.

And even then, he was easily outpointed and many of his victories are clear robberies.

Go watch Ali vs Jimmy Young on youtube, your jaw will drop. That match is simply scandalous.

additionally his ko percentage is very low, under the average, and if you count only the kos over peoples that would be considered heavyweights by today standards, his ko percentage becomes riducolously low.

Make a skilled boxer watch ali fighting without knowing who he is, and he'll tell you that this man fought all wrong and even lacked the fundamentals of the sport.

Throwing flurries on the tip of his toes, slapping, keeping the hands down and consequntly being hit, he wasn't even particularly skilled.

Not to mention that he has been knoccked down and out by fighters smaller than him and with low ko percentages and power.

Ali is the most overrated boxer ever, and in addition to that, he was even an arrogant unrespectful *****.

If Ali was around today he'd be fresh as a dasiy without having taken the beatings from Frazier and Foreman.
And he wouldn't of been exiled out of his prime either and would of been faced with nothing but a long string of Bambi's.

If Ali was around today he'd go unbeaten into his late 30's.
    Fact.

I'm not sure that's true. He beat guys bigger than himself. Many of his wins were also based on movement, handspeed, intelligence, durability etc.

Floyd Mayweather, Calzaghe, Ward and Hopkins aren't KO artists. You can be effective and successful without being a power puncher.

And they will tell you the same sorts of things about many current top 10 HW's (and fighters in other divisions) and also tell you that many current fighters have other flaws/deficiencies such as lack of speed, agility, stamina, movement, chin etc

Also if Ali was around today (as the thread states), he would have modern training and nutrition so would be physically stronger, faster and have better stamina/endurance. He also missed out on some of his prime years.

    I agree.

And if Mormeck was in the 60's and 70's... Well... he might just be undefeated

Ali fought for notoriety. Yes, HWs were smaller then.....but Ali couldn't make LHW and at that time he was an average to above average sized HW.

I think if Ali was fighting today, he'd definitely be fighting at Cruiser......I think he'd slip into the HW division and pick off Wlad's defenses before Wlad could fight them. Just so he could claim he was the best. He could talk his way into a Potvetkin or a Haye fight, and take their titles.....make a defense or two, drop them and defend his Cruiser titles(he'd be UNDISPUTED).
That said......I couldn't make a case for him ever beating Wlad.....based off my own subjective opinion (I have like 30 of his fights on VHS and 8MM) and other's somewhat unbiased opinions like your's and the OPs.

I think he'd be #2-#5 in the division and I think he'd beat prime- Vitali. (He doesn't take shots from huge guys, he's absorbs shots, or slips them completely). He'd beat MOST of the top 10 today, MOST of the time. He didn't duck fights, but he'd have his OWN division, ALL to himself, and with his "ARROGANCE" his "DISRESPECT" and his overall "DIKKHEADEDNESS" he could "DUCK" Wlad, just as Floyd Mayweather has "DUCKED" Pacquioa, and use promoters, tv deals, $$$ as the excuse without being labeled.

So......as for him fighting today vs in the 60s/70s......I think fighting today would actually add to his legacy especially since guys like Huck, Ledbedev, Jones to an extent, Hernandez, Haye, and USS have joined former top CWs in giving the division credibility.
If Ali were fighitng today he could be 55-0 .....he'd be the undeniable GOAT, without ever having to step into the ring with another ATG.:think

He might......but I think we sometimes underrate that era particularly. Mormeck is a solid 195-210lb talent.....as good as Haye prime for prime.....IDK if Mormeck is undefeated then, but he'd definitely be a top 5 and that, given the overrating by the "majority" of fans, makes him a p4p ATG.:D

He had tough fights vs guys who be dominated by Huck or Ledbedev or BHOP, Kovalev and Stevenson.......

If Ali fought at CW he would be as you said, but don't pretend that guys like Pulev and Fury wouldnt put a beating on him......they would......I think Ali would likely stop them both in 9-12 rd fights, but he'd take punishment.....

As for wasting his prime.....I agree....:good
While I don't agree in his stance against Vietnam, politicizing and making it about race......I think he shoulda done the Elvis tour and his duty to his country, making exhibition fights at Army bases/USO's, and picking up his brother's spirits in mock fights. :think

So many people viewing the past "greats" though rose tinted glasses.

Ali was overrated and overhyped. Fact. It seemed just because he said "I'm the greatest" enough times, people believed it.

Wlad, Vitali, Valuev, Wilder and Fury are all too big for Ali to deal with. This is the same Ali who was knocked senseless by cruiserweight journeyman, Henry Cooper. Imagine what someone like Wlad would do to him?

Size matters in boxing. Ali couldn't cope with the big boxers of today. Fact.

In fact, he'd have struggled in the 90s against the likes of Tyson, Holyfield and Lewis too. His era was full of largely overweight, slow slobs. There were a handful of good boxers, but it was primarily clowns who would be journeymen today.

Look at George Foreman. Can anyone honestly say he'd be a contender in todays era? He's be a Chris Arreola style journeyman.
