I want to see the best video evidence of the best boxer of all time. Doesn't mean you think they are, as some people think Greb is, yet there is no footage. Some think Langford is, but is there a video that shows him looking great. Most think WW SRR Robinson is the best, but again is there a great video of him displaying that as WW. So which video would you show them as an example of the best we have to offer. Maybe it isn't somebody who is normally viewed as the best, but this particular performance he put on showed every quality needed to be the best.
I think some of holyfields fights showed some of the best qualities of boxing. Heart chin courage power speed never give up. he was in some magnificent matches
There are plenty of options. If we boil it down to one showcase performance. Something like Hagler-Sibson would be hard to argue with.
Steve Collins vs. Eubank. The fight will convince the aliens that we can hypnotize ourselves into being unbeatable and invulnerable to their weapons, making them think twice about an invasion and retreat to their home planet.
This is the key phrase that considerably narrows the field. Speed, power, chin, defense, stamina, technical skill, footwork would need to be displayed, so this ironically throws out some truly great performances like: Mayweather vs Corrales, Roy Jones prime fights, prime Ali, prime Whitaker etc. Fitting the criteria, some contenders come to mind: 1) Duran vs Leonard 1 2) Leonard vs Hearns 1 3) Robinson vs LaMotta 6 4) Sanchez vs Gomez
Would be that many to have to show to get the full story of this wonderful sport of our s. How it can go from the high s of seeing your favourite boxer against the odds win example, Ali v liston and foremen, to the crashing lows, ali v Holmes and berbick. It would be so hard to sum up in one video to capture some thing so f.. Ing great as our sport. Would have to plump for marciano v Walcott 1.showing heart, skill, determination, two men fighting to there very best and a Hollywood style ending.
Not for me , it was close and the referee had them level! Maybe Calzaghe v Lacy could be mentioned? Holmes v Cobb? Louis v Max Baer?
For me being even in scorecards is fine if the quality of opponent is elite. Like for me beating Liston in a competitive fight is much better than beating Williams in a whitewash.
