Consider boxers from the current era (2015-2024). Imagine if all of them suddenly retire. How would you rank the top heavyweights based on their achievements and their resumes? Here is my list:

    1. Tyson Fury
    2. Oleksandr Usyk
    3. Anthony Joshua
    4. Deontay Wilder
    5. Joseph Parker
    6. Andy Ruiz Jr.
    7. Dillian Whyte
    8. Joe Joyce
    9. Zhillei Zhang
    10. Filip Hrgovic

    Usyk
    Joshua
    Fury
    Parker
    Whyte
    Wilder
    Ruiz
    Joyce

Zhang and Hrgovic haven't done enough to assess, IMHO.

Wilder has a fifteen-year career with a WBC title and ten defenses over five years. He has lost to only two guys, both in the top ten list with one of them coming when he was past it. He does not have a HOF career, but has certainly done enough to be among the top five guys of his era.

Wilder has a long list of journeymen and the odd gatekeeper.
    Joyce has several gatekeepers.

Zhang has Joyce and basically nothing else.
Hrgovic has Zhang and also basically nothing else.

I'm harder on Wilder and Joyce than most around here, but they've both done a lot more.

At the same time, Wilder has only beaten one guy in the top ten, and that guy was massively overhyped for how little he'd achieved.

He might be fringe top 5 on the Stalin principle (quantity has a quality all of its own) but there's a very limited amount of any real quality and that title reign is a bad joke.

Zhang is better than any name on wilders and joyce resume, aswell Joyce is better name than any opponent Wilder faced, and he faced only Ortiz.

He never won against top 10 opponent and was champ, enough said

I think I would rank AJ over Fury at this point. But not by much.
Usyk clearly over both and both of them over Wilder.

Parker is neither washed up nor a bum. He is not a great fighter but is grossly underrated.

Zhang has only beaten Joyce and a bunch of guys that would be thrilled if you called them journeymen.

In resume terms he's very unproven.

Joyce is more proven despite losing to Zhang.

He better than Wilder, but lost to Joyce and Whyte, latter being secon rate fighter who lost against everyone.

Wilder only beat Ortiz, who has no notable wins. He aint even in top 10 when he was a champ

Beating Joyce twice by KO, who was then #3 in the World, and having insanely close match with Hrgovic makes him Top 5, he is way above Wilder when WIlder was a champ, now he aint even Top 10

    1. Fury as it stands could have been an ATG but wasted years of his career. Best heavy of his generation.
    2. Usyk Great cruiser, an excellent heavy doesn't have the depth of CV someone like Evander did to rate him as a great heavy. Gives any of the top 10 fits. 50/50 fight with Fury stalled.
    3. AJ Over rated on the way up...struggled with trying to change his style..vulnerable to speed and people with quick hands but was a decent power combination puncher on the front foot at his best.
    4. Wilder One trick pony - but what a trick. Terrific puncher but avoided big fights and then left it too late to gamble against the best.
    5. Parker Solid heavy, a little guilty of being a bit too passive in some fights.
    6. Ruiz One hit wonder who didn't have the dedication to go on to more big things. A good fighter to watch, interesting attributes.
7.Whyte Despite the stick he gets fought everyone he could. Won some, lost some, and froze on his biggest night. Where's the B sample(s)
    8. Joyce Brought along quickly and impressed but just too hittable and eventually meant someone who could crack his chin.
    9. Zhang A wild card, composed, accurate and huge puncher but can run out of gas. Needs some bigger names on his CV to properly judge. Some poor results and some good ones.
    10. Hrgovic Tall, rangy, euro style can look disinterested - needs bigger tests.

Whyte did not 'lose against everyone'. He lost to two of the three best fighters of his era - Fury and Joshua. His only bad loss was against washed-up Povetkin which was due to his brittle chin, a loss that he avenged. Obviously not an A grade fighter but was a headache to anyone who did not pack a heavy punch. Parker was not a particularly big puncher and so he did not enjoy a heavy advantage against Whyte.
