If Anderson fights anyone but Chael, is it fair to say he's ducking Chael???

And is Anderson now intimidated by Chael?

Does Anderson now realize that Chael's style is kryponite for him, and would avoiding this matchup be considered as Anderson running from Chael?

I say yes, he would be ducking him. Undecided on whether Chael now intimidates Anderson.

    Discuss.

Chael is the obvious fight for him. I doubt Silva is intimidated by anyone, but Chael is certainly a dangerous fight for him, and Anderson isn't stupid.

Not only is Chael the obvious fight, it's also the only real meaningful fight currently available at 185. His only other meaningful options are moving up to face Bones (which I would watch but I think it's entirely unnecessary) or GSP moving up to face him (which is quickly becoming the Duke Nukem Forever of MMA)

GSP's not coming up any time soon so we can pretty much scratch that one.

Bones I think is a step too far. But I almost hope Anderson takes that fight, because can you imagine how much **** Sonnen will talk about Anderson being so afraid to sign a rematch that he would rather run to light-heavy and try his luck with Jon Jones. Sonnen will immediately declare himself the MW champion and start talking about how he chased Anderson Silva out of the MW division. :rofl

Lets just look at the facts here Anderson Silva 36-37 years old and he maybe feels that he is on the down slide normally a fighter peaks at 30.
He probably wants to go out with a comfortable win and it isnt all about the greatest challenge he can handle anymore as he prolly wants to be the only undefeated champ in UFC history and just seal his legacy.

    Just my thoughts tho

    Look at this objectively:

    Fighter A is champion

    Fighter B was the challenger

Fighter A finished fighter B in a fight

    Fighter B got banned

Fighter A looked spectacular in winning 2 fights vs top challengers

Fighter B won one fight against a guy who was arguably not even top 5 in the division

Has fighter B really done enough to merit a rematch?

Objectively, I say no. As a fan, I want Silva-Sonnen 2 next, but objectively Chael hasn't really earned it. I'd like to see him having a final eliminator vs Belfort first, as you shouldn't really be able to 'talk' your way into fights in this day and age.

who does deserve the title shot then?

Who could Silva fight that would $ell a PPV?

Sonnen is the only guy besides Gsp or Bones.

I dont see a good reason not to fight Sonnen. He did give Anderson his toughest fight by far.

Hard to duck someone you already defeated.

You can certainly argue this, but there is another way of looking at it objectively.

Number one, this is the fight that the fans want to see. (Except the Anderson cockslobberers. :yep) That by itself is a legit reason for Sonnen to be next. The only other fights that generate as much or more fan reaction are GSP or Bones, and neither of them are really on the table.

Second, this fight is MUCH bigger than the first. Anderson will earn more $$$ for this than for any other fight. Chael now has great ammunition to step his ****-talking up. And there are a lot more questions floating over this fight. Were Anderson's ribs to blame? Did Chael's roids help? Can Anderson adapt? Did Sonnen luck out by loudly ringing Anderson's bells with one of the first punches of the fight? Will Silva claim #1 ATG status by spectacularly destroying and humiliating his biggest rival? There's no middleweight fight out there that has this many storylines.

Third, it's his best legacy fight. If he retires having never rematched Sonnen, then there's always that question mark about whether that last-gasp sub was a plain fluke. If Anderson can keep the fight standing and light Chael up then it's a massive, massive boost to his historical standing.

It's his biggest rival. The fight needs to be made. We all know that Chael will foreclose on his grandmother's house if it gets him this fight, so if Anderson doesn't take it, then part of his legacy must surely be that he avoided the challenge. He has unfinished business, simple as that. :good

I want Silva-Sonnen II next, but objectively I don't think Chael deserves it and I don't think Anderson can be accused of ducking if his next fight is someone else.

Sonnen took ROIDS and lost the fight.... why in the hell should he give him another chance.

just because sonnen demands a rematch doesn't mean he will get his way. he was beaten fair and square.
i hope dana matches silva with someone else for his next fight.
even if they did fight i wouldn't be surprized if silva destroyed him, i really don't see a repeat of the original fight.

the thing with sonnen, and also mayhem miller, is that they will only be remembered for their behaviour, not their fighting.
    they are both ****ing wankers.

So Haggis, you aren't arguing rational points about who deserves a match, you are arguing hype and money.

Chael has lost to sub time after time. When you think of Chael Sonnen the fighter we remember how excellent a wrestler he is, but we also remember how susceptible he is to submissions and the many, many fights he has lost by submission.

What makes sense fight wise is to match up Chael with a submission fighter. We know he can deal with strikers, but can he deal with a sub fighter? Seems like he should prove me wrong, he should avenge his loss to Maia who subbed him in the first round, and who is also has a loss and a recent win. In Chaels last 9 fights, he has one victory that wasn't a decision and 3 losses.

Munoz seems to be the next guy who really deserves a shot.

There are grounds for a rematch, if Chael can beat a decent sub fighter and not be hyped up by matching him against fighters who are more or less hopeless on the ground, and match up horribly against elite level wrestlers.

Your emotional reaction against Sonnen's personality sours your argument. :good

First off, there is no logical fight except Chael. The best alternate you can come up with is that Munoz deserves one after he just beat Leben a couple of days ago. But that is a poor substitute in terms of excitement, challenge and legacy compared to Sonnen 2.

You want Sonnen to run off and face an unnamed submission fighter or two, in the hope that he will lose. You want him to prove that he can handle a style that he matches up horribly with. Why, when he's clearly the biggest threat to the champion, a guy who he matches up beautifully with? He was beating Anderson Silva's ass like it was nothing last time. You don't want to see if he can do it again? You'd rather see Silva-Munoz? You really think that's a better fight? :huh

For Anderson, there is no bigger-money fight than Chael. There is no higher-profile fight than Chael. There is no fight the fans want to see more than Chael. And there is no fight better for his legacy than Chael.

So why should he fight someone else? Why should Chael go off and fight a horrible style mismatch while Anderson gets older, when he proved that he's the (possible) ATG's greatest rival, and everything is in line for a massive and very meaningful rematch? :huh

    Sonnen is a drugs cheat.

He should be banned from the sport.

Silva beat him in the last fight.

    No rematch!
