I'm british and you only need to look at a world map to see that America isnt one uniform 'one team supporting' country. Its the biggest ethnic mix in the world for starters!

 

How is Calzaghe an Englishman when he has an Italian father and Welsh mother? He was born in London but didnt grow up there.
Many people are born in one place but live and grow up in another. Home is where you settle or grow up and Calzaghe never viewed himself as English.

Froch was past his best himself, and was given terrible preparation, but consider Frochs run in world title fights was up to Kessler a tough fight with unrated done nothing SMW in Pascal, a last round KO over a 1-2 in his last 3 fights Taylor who did nothing at SMW and was ahead, and what some call a lucky SD over Dirrell who had done nothing at SMW.
What was Frochs big win then? He has a big SMW now over Bute, who many on here felt hadnt done anything at SMW and some felt was lucky against Andrade
