WHEN HE IS BORN IN LONDON.
no more bull****, Bail-out. freaking birth cetificate 100% in black and white. end of.

I have no truck with mixed heritage of course, but dont pretend even for 1 second he's JUST Welsh with Welsh fans. England is his backyard as much as the English province of Wales.

Once again. His father and mother are not English.
How is Calzaghe an Englishman when he has an Italian father and Welsh mother? He was born in London but didnt grow up there.
Many people are born in one place but live and grow up in another. Home is where you settle or grow up and Calzaghe never viewed himself as English.
Vanes Martirosyan was born in Armenia but grew up and represented America. He would call America his home I expect.
If he was born in China, but grew up like he did in Wales, would he be called Chinese? You answer.

    Redirect to above post.

Dont ignore it this time. The man is English, British, Welsh, Italian. Pretty much a bogstandard mongrel englishman. Its YOU who wants him to be Welsh alone with England as an away country for him, not me.

It is equally ignorant to act as if the UK is one big happy family, as if a man claiming to be Welsh will recieve a warm welcome when he fights in Scotland against a Scotsman or England against an Englishman or visa versa. Which is essentially the argument put forward by dinovelvet, that somehow exept for four fights Calzaghe never fought in a hostile environment because most of his fights happened in the UK, that the different cultures throughout the UK were irrelevent.

You can find different allegiances and partitians in an housing estate! The size of a nation has **** all to do with what differences one part of it has with another.

The US is "freaking huge", that's undeniable, but I highly doubt that the divergances of cultures in different States, and amongst the different people in those States, are so monumentally different from anywhere else in the world that anyone could be able to claim that American fighters who fight almost solely in the US have a greater record of fighting in foreign territory to fighters from the rest of the world.

He fought in scotland only once. The rest he had the backing of the crowd as Calzaghe was well liked.

My major point was distance travelled. He never had to leave in own house in 42 fights.

Calzaghes fans could always follow him with a £3 megabus ticket to London, especiallu if you add his non-welsh (ie english) fans.
The same doesnt apply over vast distances in the USA.

no, it has **** everything to do with it.

no one is claiming that. raise a valid argument please.

******ed. Against Reid Woodhall and Eubank, Calzaghe was definitely the away fighter.

BerolPee in particular posts nothing but complete nonsense about Calzaghe and the WBO. He's currently the worst poster on this forum.

:patsch Failed again, though that is typical of you
    He fought Eubank in England
    Reid in England
    Woodhall in England
    Veit in Germany
All fighters above have held a SMW world title
    he fought Hopkins in America
    Jones in America
Both fighters who have been world champs
All of the above were world rated when Calzaghe the away fighter beat them.

Then as you note he fought in neutral locations in Scotland twice, against an English fighter, and an American fighter, and in Denmark against an American fighter.
He also contested the vacant British title against undefeated Delaney in a hostile crowd away in England.

Thats 8 times alone that I can think of, off the top of my head :hi:
Only around half of his world title fights were in his home based country

imo if your the champ you have every right to fight at home in front of home fans. Why should a champ be the guy going looking for a hostile away crowd? Surely if people wanted his belt they should rightfully come into his backyard and try to take it.

1- You don't know that. Ward's style is very similar to Hopkins', who gave Calzaghe a very hard fight while in his 40's.

2- You don't know that either. Ward's already been a champion for 3 years. In 7 years he'll be 35 years old. He may very well be champ at 35.

8 what exactly ? He fought an egyptian in scotland and was the home fighter there. He got the backing of the english due to him being born there.

In 42 fights he never left home. You dont seem to know anything about the man except who he has fought

There nothing wrong with home fights. Bailey and his sister's here like to give Ward stick over it.

i was at both calzaghes fights against eubank and woodhall and he never had the backing of the crowd in those fights (though he did have a decent welsh following).

calzaghe was a welshman fighting an englishman in england. there was nothing neutral about that.
