Yes I think he'd make a good opponent and he would gain the European belt. Though Joshua may want to win the British title first, which could mean a fight with John McDermott who is the English champion for the vacant title. Maybe they could instead arrange a fight with Chisora for the vacant title, that would be a good next fight for AJ as McDermott would be a pretty straight forward result.

Then Teper after for the Euro title makes sense. Teper seems pretty good but limited. He's big, has a tight guard, has pretty good power and mixes his shots up nicely. That tight defence and pressure style will force AJ back and make him box instead of walk through him like he has done with everyone so far and perhaps take him into the middle rounds at least. This will give AJ something new to deal with, as standing and trading with Teper would be dangerous. Teper is a bit of a plodder so would be nice to see AJ box and move and see his defensive skills tested. He will have to work to get Teper out of there as well due to that tight guard.

    WTF?????
How the hell is John McDermott still the belt holder?
    He's not fought since 2013

That's insane! If the board aren't bothered about the title being fought for then May aswell go for the euro belt.

Has big John retired or injured?

The reality nobody cares about these minor national titles, even the British title has lost much of it's prestige among top pros. So with nobody really wanting a shot at the title or pushing for it, McDermott has just been left as the champion. Rather then strip him and mandate a fight which both sides would likely not want it's easier to just keep him champion. Can you imagine if he just stayed English champion indefinitely, in 2115 he could still be English champion.

Sorry mate, you are talking out your ****.

The Whyte v Joshua fight will be for the vacant British Title, which as an aside has lost none of it's prestige. Joshua has himself said that it was always his plan to go the British Title route.

There is absolutely NO WAY that Big John McDermott would be getting or going anywhere near a fight with Joshua. Absolute nonsense.

Woah steady on there no need to insult me. Didn't know the Whyte/AJ fight was for British title. I stand corrected, would make sense that this fight is for the British title. I was simply coming up with hypothetical scenarios of what AJ could do, I was never claiming this was fact, so no need to lose your rag over such a minor thing.

Teper would be a good opponent for AJ. Then he should go after someone like Pulev next year.

Teper looks like a fat tub of sh!t to me.
Yeah, he holds the European title but that means nothing, even Audley had that.
It's an excusable fight just to pick up the title but it's not likely to be a test.

I'd rather see Joshua tested against someone in shape and who has proven reasonable at world level like Bryant Jennings, or some other top prospect like Joseph Parker.

McDermott is the English champion, not British (which incorporates boxers from England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland).

He has been finally mandated to fight Hughie Fury. No idea if we will vacate or not, but Hughie Fury has stated he will contest it.

Teper is a good fight, he sparked Michael Sprott quicker and more devastatingly than Joshua, KOd Price cold, did the same with Rogan. Truth be told he looks to hold considerably more one punch KO power than Joshua so I think it would be a good test.

I think Jennings is too big a jump up in class at the moment. Jennings is a top contender with wins over Szpilka, Perez and an impressive fight with Wlad for the title. Joshua is basically still a prospect, beaten one faded gate keeper and about to fight a top domestic level opponent, to jump up all the way to Jennings would be similar to the jump up in class Price took when he fought Thompson. That's just too risky at this stage.

Parker along with AJ is one of the top prospects and while I'm all for prospects and contenders facing off, I can't see either side risking it just yet but it's a fight I'll definitely look forward to.

I think the next 12 months or so should be something like:

vs Whyte for British - Dec
vs Teper for European - March
vs Chisora for British/European - June
vs someone to get him a high ranking, maybe Browne or Pulev - Sept
    vs Wlad/Fury/Wilder - end Year

Thing is, Bryant Jennings has only been fighting a few years. He is 19-1 as a pro, he hardly had any amateur fights, he got to the national golden gloves final in 2009. I'm not sure he even boxed at all until 2009.
He went the distance with Wlad. He had the courage to take that fight.

Joshua was in the amateur world championships (silver medal) and the Olympics (gold), he's had 14 pro fights.
If Joshua's not ready to take on someone like Jennings after Whyte, he'll never be ready.

Yeah I've wondering that too.... Was looking forward to Lewison/McDermott, but that one never panned out. Big John should definitely be stripped. The English domestic scene used to be fun and full of life, now it's stagnant and most guys are just feeding on EE journeymen instead of facing each other. :-(

Jennings is smaller but he's got crazy long arms (85" reach), and uses it well. Even Wlad had a little trouble judging the range against him. Good test for anybody
I know team Parker are looking at him for next year
