If Arreola diets like crazy now, will his strength and energy suffer?

    Right.

No more muscle than he has, if he were decently lean/fairly good shape, he'd not weigh over 235, or so.

He seems to be about as muscluarly developed as Laikhovich.

235 would be a good weight for this guy.

if Christobal 'Jabba' Arreola wins this fight it will be the end of heavyweights as we know it
nobody will get into proper shape after that

The best thing Arreola can do right now is hire a sports nutricionist, who has experience with boxing, to help him the best way possible with getting down in wheight the most, while training the best, because by now losing wheight is a secondary priority. He should have worried about the wheight long ago, actually he needs to watch over that being a pro athlete. A guy like him can eat pretty good and still keep under 260lbs.

I agree with this. Tua spent most of his camp for his fight against Byrd worried about losing weight, and look what happened there.

**** the weight, he needs to train for this fight, and if he comes in real fat, well, so be it. It's too late now to do anything about it.

And anyone that says a fighter gaining 30 pounds or so from their fight night weight (not weigh in weight for little guys, as they're boiled down for the weigh in) - and with heavies there's no reason to weigh in lighter than your fighting weight - is 'normal', really needs to think about that.

30 pounds is a lot to be carrying between fights, and HAVING to lose that each time. Why not keep most of it off all the time, and actually spend the training camp training and getting FIT, not losing FAT.

Does Usain Bolt carry 30 extra pounds in the off season??? OF course he ****ing doesn't, so why do boxers think they can get away with it?

You can train to lose weight or train to fight. Arreola should not be that heavy - even this far out! :deal

You can also lose weight while training to fight.

Or, you can stay in shape and concentrate your energy on your gameplan for dethroning the champion.

At this point, Arreola really cannot worry about weight. He just needs to try to eat right and get his cardio up. Its true that losing a bunch of weight before the fight will weaken him. It reminds me of Bowe in the Golota rematch. People all marveled at how much weight Bowe lost but it didn't help him and actually hurt him.

Arreola needs to worry more about trying to slip Vitali's jab and straight right hand, than he does what the scale is gonna say.

Arreola should lift weights to not lose muscle while he's losing weight for the Vitali fight.

Yep. From the little I see reported, it seems huge numbers of fighters these days spend more time in camp actually trying to get fit and/or lose weight, rather than actually training for the fight itself.

There seem to be very few that keep themselves in shape all the time, which with the amount of money these guys kept paid, is ****ing disgraceful.

Perhaps Arreola will have some of Kirk Johnson's doughnuts in his corner to keep up his energy or perhaps one of Panama's pills?
