I doubt Chris can pull it off, but if he finds a way... Is there anyone who dosen't think Arreola will be a huge draw as heavyweight champion??? I would have to think A mexican American who Ko's people and has a likable personality would have to bring many people and attention into the sport.
he MIGHT be a draw... only if he continues winning or putting up memorable fights... which i doubt will happen...because he will lose to vitali in my opinion...
There'll be a rematch clause... which is about as long as I think his (very unlikely) run would last. Some brief attention, but it wouldn't last long.
I was wondering myself if the Mexican community would embrace Arreola. He's kinda sloppy, and I usually notice Mexican fighters are supposed to operate with more decor and professionalism outside of the ring.
Well if Arreola wins he'd certainly generate 80 threads here at ESB along the lines of "Arreola vs. Liston, who would win??????"
Well, once Hell has finished freezing over... Arreola does indeed have some things going for him. The attacking style and the crossover Mexican-American appeal. That would aid his popularity, plus the fact that the US hasn't had a heavyweight champ since 2007 so there would be curiousity there. He'll never be poster boy material though.
If he wins - he will be a serious draw. Not only is he an entertaining fighter - but he's American - he's Mexican - he has KO power in both hands. Couldn't see why he wouldn't have huge drawing power - especially as a HW.
If he wins, he might become the next Buster Douglas who shows up so fat in his first defense that he loses wihtout much of an effort. Arreola just doesn't have the discipline to be heavyweight champion for a significant period of time, even if he becomes champ.
IF he managed to knock out Vitali? I have no doubt he'd be a big bread winner. He could live off that win for years.
My thoughts exactly. And I mean exactly. You can take an undisciplined guy and control him for limited periods, but you can't change him.
