If B-hop is a defensive genius, is Hatton one aswell?

The latter day B-hop uses spoiling tactics to frustrate opponents and is labelled by many of his fans as a defensive wizard. These tactics invariably involve grappling, tying-up opponents on the inside, low-blows and frequent use of the head. Hatton uses similar tactics to disrupt the rhythm of his opponents (except the headbutts) and is branded as a mini-John Ruiz. Why the distinction between the styles, when they seem pretty similiar to me.........

I tend to agree, that's a good summary.

For a proper defensive genius look at James Toney and Sweet Pea. You never saw Toney running away like Floyd Mayweather, or constantly fouling and holding like Hopkins. Toney stood his ground and fought properly.

No! NO NO NO! OH---MY----GOD NO! B-Hop has incredible defensive skills......and they don't consist of his rough-house tactics. Footwork, head movement, angles, feints, etc Watch the guy fight....he almost never gets hit clean. But he does do all that other stuff as well :good

uhhh Hopkins pretty much never gets hit flush, just cause Hatton holds and Hopkins holds you think Hatton is as good as Hopkins defensively?

No, I was asking the question. They have completely different styles but use similar tactics to disrupt their opponents' gamplans. I seem to remember Hopkins getting hit pretty flush against RJJ and Taylor......

They don't use similar tactics at all. Hatton swarms his opponents while Hopkins picks his spots.

Also, its time for you to re-watch the Hopkins-Taylor fights.

So, Hopkins does not grapple, wrestle, headbutt or low-blow? These are the tactics I was referring to. As for styles, it's crystal clear Hopkins is far more versatile than Ricky could ever be. I don't think Hatton would know how to fight off the back the foot.

    comparing Hatton to Hopkins? lol

The thing with Hopkins is he is highly versatile, and he has learnt many different defensive styles. It's just a shame that he has mastered it after his physical prime. But why is he still competitive at such an advanced age? He has become a better, smarter boxer but while physically declining.

Also, Taylor hardly landed any flush shots at all, and Jones found it hard to hit Hopkins as well, although he did get a few good shots in, but this was when Hopkins was a young bull.
