You often hear on this forum the sentiment "in my eyes, no one would beat a PRIME '88 Tyson. He is unbeatable." Wait a minute. James "Buster" Douglas did indeed manage such a feat several decades ago. To put things in perspective, Douglas was KO'd three times by absolute bums before ever fighting Tyson. Iron chinned warrior? No. If the history of Tyson's fights show us anything, it is that he is absolutely incredible at defeating over matched opponents in an explosive fashion. However, when opponents do not succumb to initial pressure and intimidation, it is TYSON who begins to unfold, physically and mentally. And yet it is simply implausible that Vitali Klitschko, a man who has never been knocked down with a proven iron chin; a man who is a master at controlling distance and has great ring IQ; a man who has the highest KO % in HW history, could defeat the legend that is 'prime' Tyson. Forget all that though, Tyson KO1 Vitali :rofl
It was a fluke... Tyson was ****ing Japanese girls left and right. He went crazy over that exotic pie..
Cus died in 1985 when Tyson had all but 11 or so fights under his belt. He got significantly better over the course of the next three years, decidedly peaking against Spinks in his 35th professional fight. He made two more fairly dominant defenses of the title in 1989 basically acting as his own trainer before Douglas put his lights out. He quickly recovered and put himself back in position to regain the title before a rib injury and the **** case/conviction cut off his physical prime. 41-1 (36) The End.
Beacause 88 is not 90. And no he never got discouraged in his prime and always fought to the last minute. Even in his ko to buster he took hisbeating like a man and didnt quit like a *****. Oh and Lewis TKO6
sean, Doesnt it boggle your mind to the lengths of which people can be so misinformed about Tyson? Probably the most popular, prolific, profiled and overexposed fighter in modern history. Everything there at your finger tips and people still manage to **** that up. Some cats on here cant even identify his fighting style and what made him successful aside from his impeccable natural attributes.
Don't act like you know everything about Mike Tyson! :nono Your avatar and your SN is a bit much... Are you obsessed with Mike?
BTW slugger, Take a glance at my brief post history to discover the measure of disrespect and disdain I hold for Vitali Klitschko. Or, lackthereof.
Tony Tucker wasn't considered a bum, That was not prime Tyson that Douglas fought. Prime Tyson was trained by cus, or atlas or ronney, not corner of confusion during the douglas fight.
It just gets on my nerves the way people go on becuse he destroyed the division therefor they must be ****, he was over rated for years with all the ko 1 ali ect, but now he is vastly underated!!
Is it fair to compare Vitali Klitshko at his peak to an unfocused and under trained Mike Tyson. Not to make excuses for Mike, but you're looking at possibly one of his worst nights and using it as the basis for your match up. One thing I see loads and loads of fans do is look at one night, the Buster Douglas fight, and use that to undermine a prime Mike Tyson as if he showed up every night like that. Tyson's life was spiraling out of control by the time he fought Douglas and we've all heard the hundreds of stories about how he didn't train the way he was supposed to for that fight, so lets not use his worse moment as the argument. Nonetheless, I think a prime focused and trained Tyson gives any Heavyweight problems, Tyson from the Spinks fight for example. A focused and properly trained Tyson blows through Wald Klitschko and probably losses a decision to the older and more awkward brother.
