No. Quality critics? He's already silenced them. But for the rest, Pavlik will be overrated if Joe beats him. It's the Lacy situation all over again. So many people are on the Pavlik bandwagon and just can't imagine how good is his style for Joe... so if he loses in Lacy fashion, it's gonna be the same. Overrated. Lacy is overrated. Kessler is an overrated eurobum. Hopkins is old. Those who had doubts in Joe but they are pretty much objective in their critics were silenced when Joe destroyed Lacy.
Doesn't matter what he does, there will always be people bringing up the "too old/too young/unproven/Lacy was always a bum" argument, never mind the "he's a slapper" theory. I'm no huge fan, but as long as he fights the best available, which he has been doing, I will give the man his dues.
What is the point of such a post? The question was IF. You can say "I think Pavlik would destroy him and this is why, but IF somehow Joe won convincingly then yes it would silence me as a critic" and that would be a worthwhile post. But as always with you, you don't even offer anything constructive or even address the question.
No, he'll always ave critics. Even if he fought/beat Pavlik in the states, he still wouldn't silence all his critics. They'd say he moved back to 168 to fight the one dimensional Pavlik instead of fighting a real LH in Dawson who hits harder and faster than Hopkins and has the endurance to fight for 12 rounds. His biggest detractors will continue to point out his awkard "slapping" style as a reason for him not to be considered an ATG/HOF, even if he's just after Lacying Pavlik.
I am addressing the question. Plain and simple, Calzaghe will not beat Pavlik in style or in any kind of style for that matter. Calzaghe barely got through Hopkins, and by barely i mean i thought he won 114-113. Still, i give Calzaghe credit for beating an old Hopkins, but Calzaghe will not outwork (which is the only reason he beat Hopkins, cause he outworked an ol' man) or outbox or outpunch Pavlik. Pavlik will beat him easily. Is that an OK answer for you, or should i elaborate some more?
It would silence some like the Kessler win silenced some (on this board at least). A clear win over Pavlik and probably one more prime contender and the critics will be cornered.:smoke
If he retired now, he'd be far more respected anyway, imo. It normally happens for sports stars in general that they are respected more in hindsight. But if you add Pavlik to his resume? wow. He beats the man that beat the man that beat the man that he himself beat!! Talk about tying up loose ends. :deal
It depends what the critics are saying. He'll never be a legend or an ATG, simply because he's unfortunate to not have had the platform to prove himself as either. He'll have a name in British boxing (already has one anyway), and a good mention in 90-00's boxing (along with many other people).
I hope this fight won't happen...best case scenario would see Pavlik winning his 2 tune-ups and Abraham beating Miranda and Lorenzo via devasting KO...Pavlik vs. Abraham in early '09...
