Will that be what he needs to establish his 'greatness'? Im a bit sceptical about this. If Calzaghe beats Hopkins, wont people just say 'he was old etc etc'? Not a stretch to call this a 'lose/lose situation'. :think
Beating a 43yr old? Yeah, thats great. He has one undefeated title holder, two tv reality stars, a body builder....and an old man. Yup, there it is......Second coming of Sugar Ray Robinson. atsch
No he has ****ed himself royally. It's not my fault he stayed over in Europe, it's not my fault he stayed in that stupid ****ing weight class, it's not my fault he was content fighting bums and protecting his -0-. I think Joe Calzaghe is a great fighter, but he has dug himself a hole as far as his "legacy" is concerned. Look at Winky....he did whatever he had to do to get the big fights, the legacy fights, and eventually the money fights. What has Joe done? Hopkins will be a start, yes.
Depending on how he beats him as well. I don't think he will get much credit right off. But in a historical/legacy sense it means a lot, people will look back kinder on his career. It's really either Hopkins or Dawson. And Calzaghe has already beaten guys of Dawsons' profile (twice actually, in Lacy and Kessler). I think Hopkins fight is very logical step in his next bout and if he wins, he could fight Dawson or Woods next up.
I can't argue with that. 35 is way too old to start your run at greatness. Maybe if he's planning on staying around till he's 40. But he's not. He's been ambigious about how many more fights he wants. He's said 2-3 and other times hinted at one. Maybe 2-3 more could do it depending on who they are.
no way in hell. jones is done, shot, over the hill, whatever you wanna call it, his legs have gone. joe should stay the hell away from any potential matchup with him.
I dont think Joe is above KO'ing has-beens to make his resume look good. Seems right up his alley, actually.
