if calzaghe beats jones and pavlik loses to hopkins?

If Pavlik loses to Hopkins id rather just see him go back to Middleweight and defend his crown although the Calzaghe fight wouldnt be a bad fight.

To be honest, I don't know who can win a fight with JC...I really would say Pavlik and AA are the sort of fighters who probably could win (by KO), but this is a very tough one to predict. There's a big question mark. JC seems to be made of steel and knock out resistent (unless he moves up to heavyweight and fights against Vitali or Wlad) :!:

 

Calzaghe is very beatable - he has a very simple gameplan but his style is so unorthodox that the opponents are often left clueless.

To me, the best way to trouble Calzaghe is fight him at his own game, i.e. switch tactics every two or three rounds, and sometimes within a round, to keep Joe guessing. Mikkel Kessler was beating Joe handily (49-46) after five, before losing each of the next six rounds. Start off toe-to-toe, then switch to potshotting off the backfoot, ala Hopkins/Mayweather then something else.

But don't bother trying to outwork him to win a UD - not happening.

Make sure you use the big straight right as often as possible - Joe eats this one all day long. Also try switch hitting, and don't be worried about getting hit, he cannot sit on his punches properly because of his hands.

 

If Pavlik loses to Hopkins, and that's a big if, Calzaghe should either:

-Remain at Light-Heavy and fight someone like Tarver, Trinidad or Dawson
-Defend WBO SM title against whoever is being highly touted at the time
-Fight Pavlik anyway

I like the sound of number three, although the overall undefeated gloss would be gone.

If Pavlik loses to Hopkins I think Joe should face the winner of Dawson V Tarver. Pavlik should go for Abraham.

Good God, don't make me sit through that again. The only fight worth having after Jones is v Pavlik regardless of his result against BHOP, Dawson is no kind of draw & Tarver would be another snooze festival...

 

If this happens Calzaghe will 100% retire, no doubt at all.
