Yep -- the clash of style is intriguing to say the least. There are people on both sides of the argument who claim that their guy will just wade right through the other. They're nuts!

Stamina, work rate, the willingness to leave absolutley everything in the ring, those are all a wash. Stamina and work rate are something both guys rely on heavily, and both have plenty to offer. Both fighters also put out 100%.

Joe has to keep Pavlik from catching him with the 1-2, or the lead right, because if he gets caught with either, he gets hurt, and if Pavlik hurts ya, you're dead where ya stand.

Pavlik has to use Joe's bad habits against him. When Joe rushes in with his head down swinging wide slaps, BANG, catch him with a 1-2 followed by a right upper cut. When Joe throws his left to the body he leaves the whole right side of his head and face wide open. Hit him with a jab-left hook. Joe likes to throw those little 4 inch punches to the head and face in rapid succession. When he does that he leaves his entire body wide open. Pavlik's right hand to the body and his left hook to the body are lethal. Joe has to NOT GET CAUGHT!

Pavlik on the other hand has to do what no other has been able to do. He has to use Joe's flaws to beat him. I'm 100% certain that other opponents thought the same thing, but they all failed.

I get pretty excited thinking about this fight. I think Pavlik stops Joe in 10 or 11 while down on the cards, but this is boxing. anything can happen.

 

If he was to defeat Jones & Pavlik, I don't know where I would place him as an ATG.. Not in the top 50, that's for sure..

He would probably be #1 P4P, but that only depends on who Pacquiao & Cotto defeat on the way..

Calzaghe will, much to the disgust of his detracters, defeat both Jones and Pavlik. He will probably outpoint both of them. Then, if he's smart, he'll retire at the top. He will be a retired, undefeated champion then, and I'll leave it up to you as to how he will be evaluated by history, with an undefeated record ala Rocky Marciano.

 

If KP fought Kessler and was taken apart by him would you give Joe C more credit because he beat a peak Kessler?

KP is a good fighter but I think people have gone way overboard after his win over lockett. Raising him to a new level because he beat a fighter like he should have. KP vs Joe in may 09 is a hard fight because I think Joe is too far past his best.

I agree with you, there is a good chance KP is over hyped. I think Dawson is a harder fight for Joe, style-wise, and in a match up. The thing is though is that Pavlic is ring P4P top ten right now and in his prime. Joe has never fought such an opponent. It would be great for his resume.
