If Calzaghe does stop Roy Jones, can he do it with one punch?

If JC truly belives that it is his last fight then he may decide to risk throwing a few more solid shots. He may never had world class power but he was a more than respectable hitter before the hands became such an issue, regardless of the 2 KO stat.

Even in the Lacy fight, he was mixing up the flurries with straight hard shots. It was what made it such an excellent performance, the variety he showed.

Calzaghe can not afford to take this fight lightly, Jones is a dangerous underdog, will be unfazed by the occasion and knows that a shock win would be a great way to regain respect before he retires.

The swarm attack is possible for sure.... I have never thought of the Johnson KO to be credited to one punch, I believe that was the final blow of 9 rounds of punch accumulation... Johnson landed harder punches in the previous rounds than the one that knocked Roy out, I think alot of it was the way his head bounced on the floor too.

He can, but I'm not sure he would. He slaps with his punches unlike Tarver and Johnson.

So punch accumulation is not possible? Is it possible to have a weaker chin when you are dead tired? Can a fighter not be broken down? :huh

that must be how he beat lacy then, those marks on his face were from his mascara running. and kessler was robbed by the judges as well, thats why he held his hands up at the end and said he was beaten by the better man.
or maybe you're on about hopkins, the sorest loser in boxing history ?
    get a life.

Mate, the guy said in the comment you are responding to that Calzaghe doesn't hit hard enough to take anyone out with one punch - how is bringing up 2 fights where he scored many many clean punches and didn't win either by a stoppage evidence to refute what he's saying??

When Calzaghe first came about he was considered a big puncher before he faced Eubank his record was something like 22 (21), 0, 0

It was 22-0 (21) with 2 KO and 19 TKOs. Since he reached world title level and stopped fighting bums (well, kind of) his record is 23-0 (11) with ZERO KOs and 11 TKOs. And although I cannot remember every one of those 11 very clearly, I do recall that Manfredo, Branko Sobot, Mario Veit I and Byron Mitchell were all stoppages by the referee where Calzaghe swarm-attacked and the opponent was still upright when stopped. In each of these four, Calzaghe's opponent complained to the ref when the fight was stopped.

Roy Jones said himself, before the 9th round with Johnson he was so tired he could hardly stand up. That was because he was beat up for 8 rounds, very rarely throwing back any punches.

In his prime, the same tactics were tried against him, but he came out in spades because he punished his opponents back when they tried to beat him against the ropes, making them reluctant to go forward and trap him on the ropes becuase it wasn't worth it to them to go at Roy Jones when they were paying the check.

When Johnson knocked Roy out i thought Roy was done. I did not think it was one punch though, but many punches through out the fight that broke him down and knocked him out. I dont credit that victory to one punch, like I credit the Tarver victory.

Tarver is lucky he lost to Harding..... If not he would have been in the ring with Roy in the year 2000, he would have lost his ass.

If you aren't throwing punches back then you deserve to be stopped. Simple.

Wow, great insight. I think that's fairly obvious though.
