If Calzaghe fights Hopkins, he is going to be ripped no matter the outcome.

For every round Hopkins can win, he will be criticised heavily. If he knocks him out, Hopkins will be pronounced shotter than Shotty McShot.

    Urgh.

And if Hatton loses to Floyd, then some fans may see a chance to brush off what calzaghe accomplished on Sunday morning, and continue to unfairly criticise fighters from the UK.

I sense that Hopkins is a spot of infinite darkness as far as calzaghe is concerned.

I do not want responses to the effect of "I am an American, and I...” Yes, yes - we know that you are not all of the kind I have an eye toward.

    So, I ask you,

Is the money is worth it?

Hopkins is coming off 2 solid wins, and though people will say he is shot, if Calzaghe can beat him impressively, he will get a ton of respect cause the worst Hopkins has lost was 116-112 against RJJ.

the old ****er is as crafty as they get, and a high output southpaw plays into Hopkins style amazingly.

I think its a very tough fight for JC and will give him alot of respect if he wins it.

no he won't because we all know Hopkins can still fight and he's not fighting like a shot fighter...and Calzaghe didn't look like a spring chicken against Kessler, he's clearly past prime...

I agree it is a total no win situation. If he wins easily then EVERY American poster will say Hopkins was done and totally shot, including those who right now are saying he will **** Calzaghe.

If Calzaghe won a close tough fight, they will say an old, shot Hopkins nearly won or that he was robbed and that prime Hopkins destroys him, even though Calzaghe himself is past his prime and looked noticeably slower against Kessler than he did a couple of years ago.

If he lost..then well he would be called a fraud and a bum who got exposed by an old man.

No result whatsoever would see his stock rise, it would only work if he then fought Dawson.

Likewise he would get no credit for fighting Pavlik, but **** I would love that to happen just to end this rubbish about Pavlik being able to beat the top Super Middles.

Calzaghe will get a certain measure of respect if he beats Hopkins in America. It'd be somewhat diminished if it was held in Britain.

Hopkins is an ATG Legend who is a WINNING FIGHTER.

Retiring this guy will do wonders for his resume. There are some guys who are going to hate Calzaghe whatever. Don't sweat it.

Money isn't worth it in 07. Hopkins unlike Sugar Shane is extremely boring and not to mention in his 40's.

    Rather see him fight Pavlik.

Why? Surely he'll stop the smaller, open Pavlik early? Hopkins promises twelve interesting rounds.

You are using a bit too much logic I think. In theory I might agree, but I do not think that it can possibly work like this in reality.

Pavlik is listed at 6'2 with a 75'' reach. He's a young guy whose weight will stick and make him a ideal LHW in a few years.

Beating Hopkins would do wonders for his resume its too bad it has to happen in 2008.

The guy who retires Hopkins will get a ton of respect. Just the fact that people will say Hopkins was shot proves that he is getting respect, cause if he wasn't, people wouldn't need to say anything.

I will also be saying Hopkins was shot, and still give Calzaghe his respect.

pavlik is a huge middleweight....he is a natural supermiddleweight...he wont be at 160 for long....calzaghe v pavlik would be a great fight, boxer v puncher.
