Yes, it's such a moot point. 6 or 7 stanzas are for "moot points."

If they had rematched immediately after their 1st fight like Hopkins wanted to, an angry B-Hop by clear and convincing UD.

Now, probably Calzaghe would win, if he wasn't coked out of his tits. Hopkins had declined dramatically in the 18 months or so.

Always good to see someone aware of the human element. There would have been no question about that.

I think B-Hop edged the 1st fight anyway, but even those who don't agree must surely have seen that he did by far the more effective work, even if there wasn't much of it. All the clean, meaningful punches were landed by him, he dictated the pace for the majority of the fight, he rendered Calzaghe almost impotent with his defence and tactics. The only reason that Calzaghe made it so close was because the ageing B-Hop couldn't match his workrate, Joe C did nothing of any real value in the fight except pitter-patter fresh air, gloves or elbows. Although Hopkins wouldn't have been able to reverse the sands of time by the time of a rematch and come in with the energy and output he was capable of in the late 90s and early 2000s, he would surely have been so motivated and angry that he would have whipped himself into good enough shape to give him that little extra needed to put clear daylight between him and the clearly less skilled Calzaghe in a return bout.

A lot of fans, including myself, thought B-Hop edged their fight in 2008, so it's absurd to say he would have never beaten Joe. If I'm remembering right, the AP and many sports writers had the fight 114-113 Hop. You can point to both being past their best by the time they fought, but at least Calzaghe's stamina was still intact. B-Hop's had fallen off a cliff. He could barely keep his hands up at times.

The high workrate, which would have been negated, and the flurries wouldn't have been enough to beat a younger Hopkins who could control the tempo with his movement and pinpoint enough clean straights to win 7+ rounds. Not to mention his bullying tactics and rough-housing on the inside.

If the ref does his job, Calzaghe wins by DQ or UD. **** Hopkins.

As I mentioned already, the conditions for him to win a rematch were less favourable than in the first fight.

Home Ring, Home Ref, Home judges, Adjustment to weight etc.

Much worse spanking second time aound.

But we've been over this ground before.

    How did Wilmot finish up?

His anger didn't help him much in his Taylor rematch.

Second time around, Calzaghe's workrate probably stops him.

    I see you're still attention-deficit challenged.

I don't go in for the 'home ring, home ref, home judges' stuff, I have never viewed that as a significant factor in any fight and I never will. JMHO. Outside of Germany, I've never perceived there to be a problem with that sort of thing, and even with regard to Germany, the problem is really blown out of proportion (ie Haye-Valuev).
