He already beat Kessler. Beating Dawson would be 10x better then a second win over Kessler.

    Dawson

this is the only fight ppl would pay to see without him moving down in weight again.

plus, when calzaghe is retired and dawson is reigning champion in a few years, ppl will say calzaghe hammered him, thus giving all the americans a reason to remember calzaghe.

Hopkins. Because I think the decision was wrong last time and that B-Hop deserves the chance to right that wrong. As I'm sure he would.

If Calzaghe doesn't want to take that risk and have another torrid evening trying to break down Hopkins's defence, then I vote Dawson. That would be a great match-up.

Has to be Dawson. Hopkins would be another really crap fight, Pavlik can't step up in weight, Kessler rematch would be quite goos, as would a Froch match up (just to see Froch ruined). Taylor, Wright or Johnson i'm not really interested in.

I voted Dawson but realistically this is what should happen......

Joe takes a well earned break just now as he is the p4p champion....

Hopkins v Dawson to see who is the real no1 contender at LHWT.....

    Calzaghe v winner......

    Calzaghe retires at 47-0......

    The end !

Hopkins just didnt do enough offensively last time, it was a **** fight & most rds were really hard to score, in reality nobody landed enough punches of significance to claim robbery or even deserve a win, most people scored it narrowly for Calzaghe as did I but neither could dominate the other enough to impose their best strengths.

I will say, Hopkins was gassing around rd 10 & milked that feather fisted low blow while Calzaghe was constantly trying to make the fight & in doing so landing more punches so if anyone deserved it, it went to the right man IMO.

If Hopkins can beat Dawson (if they ever fight) then he will have earned the rematch & vice versa.... Joe can sit & wait & see who the best man is then have 1 more fight vs the best guy & call it a day, he has earned it. He doesnt need to fight them all at this stage, only the next best guy or leave it at 46-0, he is the man & he will decide.

    :thumbsup

If anybody, Dawson, though I personally think he should retire, I don't think he has anything left to prove. Even though the harshest critics and the haters who think he does, I don't think there are any fights out there that will change their mind. Even if he was to take BHop on again, and beat him again in an ugly fight (as it only can be against Hopkins), again, people will still hate on him due to BHop's age. If he beats Dawson, he will be deemed to have beaten an over rated fighter (a la Lacy). Pavliks already been exposed as one dimensional, beating Kessler again proves nothing, beating Wright will be 'beating a fighter out of his prime,' Froch will only be big domestically and I don't think beating Johnson would particularly enhance his resume nor would it be a big bucks fight. Should retire...

It was a close SD between Calzaghe and Hopkins, and then Hopkins dominated a top 10 p4p fighter in his next fight while Joe slapped around the corpse of Roy Jones. Hopkins doesn't need to do anything to justify a rematch, he has already done it. Whether Joe fancies it or not is another question. Hopkins will go down in history as a greater fighter than Calzaghe, that is clear at this point, so really it is Joe who needs that fight if he does want his legacy to come close to matching that of a guy like Hopkins.

"I will say, Hopkins was gassing around rd 10 & milked that feather fisted low blow while Calzaghe was constantly trying to make the fight & in doing so landing more punches so if anyone deserved it, it went to the right man IMO."

We score fights differently. I score fights based purely upon the number and significance of punches landed. Whether someone fakes a low blow, spits their gum-shield out, pulls the other guys trunks down, whatever, these are attitudes and events shown in the fight, they are not scoring punches therefore I discount them completely.

think realistically speaking, chad dawson in cardiff is the most realistic match up.

the question is 'how much does joe want this?'
he says he hates going back to the gym, suffers from complacency, and wants to do other things in life.

there are only 2 possible motivating factors for this fight being made for joe.

1 - the motivation of a final farewell to his fans in his home town, in front of a likely crowd of 60'000 +.

2 - MONEY. he would need to be offered a huge purse for this fight to make him consider it. it make's you wonder what kind of an offer the dawson camp could offer joe to make him go to the well one more time.

incidentally, does anyone know how much joe earned for the hopkins and jones fights?

    Mine is hopkins.

I think Dawson would be a Jeff Lacy type of fight and I dont think that would be good for dawsons confidence.

How did it effect Lacy after the calzaghe fight? I am curious because I would not wanit to happen to dawson because he has the potential to become a super fighter.
