If Calzaghe is so superior to Taylor, why didn't he beat Hopkins easier?

Taylor fought a younger Hopkins almost 3 years ago and arguably did better than Calzaghe(didn't get dropped in the process). Now that they have both fought Hopkins, is Calzaghe still viewed as superior to Taylor?

Hopkins held on for dear life, hard to fight someone who fights like Ruiz.

    I agree.

But I also don't think that Calzaghe is as far superior to Taylor as is made out.

Styles make fights. Taylor is probably a much stronger fighter that Calzaghe which allowed him to throw Hopkins around. Hopkins was able to outmuscle Joe on several occasions which he never would be able to do to Taylor.

Taylor is still a great fighter. Pavlik just seems to have his number.

    Styles make fights.

Both guys got about the same result against BHop, though Taylor managed to stay on his feet. I think Taylor did slightly better.

Calzaghe is no longer prime however.

I think the Taylor fights were way more disputable. And Taylor used the type of physical force that commanded respect from Bernard. How the hell did Calzaghe expect to get ANY respect out of Hopkins with them powderpuffs he was throwing?

This type of math doesn't work.

Calzaghe would beat Taylor handily, that is the only thing that matters.

Taylor didn't look that great in comparison to Calzaghe at all, without the knockdown Calzaghe fought much better.

Biggest difference is the weight draining was really starting to take it's toll by the end of his MW run. He's a stronger, better fighter at LHW.

Still, Calzaghe landed more punches in 12 rounds than Taylor did in 24 against Hopkins. Hopkins might've scored a flash knockdown, but Calzaghe still outperformed Taylor in that regard vs Bhop. But, while I think Calzaghe is a better fighter than Jermain, I have no problem stating that Jermain Taylor was and is an underrated fighter and I respect the hell out of him b/c he will fight the tough fights.

Strangely enough, I've noticed more people give him props after Pavlik fights than when he was champion.

Why? Because Hopkins made Calzaghe look like like crap. In reality Calzaghe is a class above Taylor.

IMO Calzaghe did beat Hopkins easier than Taylor did.

I gave Taylor a slight edge on both fights whereas I had Joe winning 8-4(rounds) over Hopkins!

He actually did. Calzaghe beat Hopkins much easier and more clearly than Taylor did
