If Calzaghe is so superior to Taylor, why didn't he beat Hopkins easier?

Does that mean that Calzaghe can be beaten soon? I think that the reasoning that Calzaghe was elite and Taylor average was bull****, they are both very good fighters and would have a competitive fight if they fought.

The funny thing to me is that Bernard, for whatever reason, showed a hell of a lot more respect for Taylor in both fights than he did against Calzaghe tonight. What makes that strange is that I think we can all admit Joe is a much, much, MUCH better fighter than Jermaine.

Some of that had to do with the added weight and less danger of eating a hard power punch.

Bernard also had to make weight against Taylor.

He was always a very big Middleweight, and it gets alot harder to dehydrate yourself at that old of an age.

He probably didn't even need the sauna to make weight at 175.

He DID beat him easier. 9-3 is probably the most correct score, where as many people scored the two Hopkins bouts for Hopkins.

Yes but Calzaghe also didn't have to make weight and was supposed to be better at 175.

That's the worst score I have seen. Actually quite ridiculous. Even Setana SPorts had it closer, who were obviously pro-Calzaghe. Hell, even Enzo Calzaghe was worried going into the championship rounds.

Of course, but 15 is 8 more than 7.

    Enzo was keeping Joe motivated.

What other rounds do you give him than 1-2-7? Round 3 if you are a blood relative maybe.

Hopkins didn't have a problem making the weight at the time, he even dropped to 156 for De La Hoya.

1,2,4,6,8, definitely with 3 and 7 going either way. Say you gave Hopkins 1,2,3,4,6 and 8 (which is completely plausible) and you have him the victor at 114-113 (due to the knockdown). Also round 12 was basically a swing round as well with neither guy doing really anything, though obviously Calzaghe was more "active" with slaps so you can give it to him.

I can see Calzaghe winning 7-5 at best, just like I can see Hopkins winning 7-5, difference being Hopkins landed the telling blows of the entire fight, as he did with Taylor. I take issue with winning fights, especially taking the belt (in this case Ring belt) by general ineffective activity punches that cause no damage.

I don't have a problem with Calzaghe getting the decision in a close fight, but with comments saying it was a clear victory for Calzaghe (which it most certainly was not) or saying there was no way Hopkins won (which he did in my eyes along with the majority of press row at the fight).

Very few fighters are at their best in new weight class debuts. Calzaghe had to do it against one of the craftiest old farts in years.

If you didn't give Bernard the 10th, you're an official Calzaghe nuthugger. Just like if you didn't give Joe 8 and 9, you were swinging off of Hopkins. That low blow was real (the second one was complete bull****). After the break, he moved forward and landed every single meaningful punch of the round.

Don't worry, he is busy rebuilding the Joe Calzaghe is supernatural bandwagon.

It will be up and running in a jiffy. :good

Hopkins fought with totally different mindset against JC and JT.
