For Calzaghe to reach actual ATG status, I think he needs to beat Kessler, Bute, and Pavlik. A win over Hopkins, despite his advanced age, could be a nice win for Calzaghe as it would give him an ATG on his resume. He could also reach ATG status if he beats Kessler and moves up to 175 beating Erdei or Woods and Dawson.
Also, how he wins matters. If he were to pretty much dominate Kessler, blow Pavlik out with ease and then beat either Bute or Dawson/Erdei clearly, that would be worthy of top 50 status IMO.
He is already HOF, I doubt he reaches ATG b/c he will get a questionable home town stoppage against Kessler as he always does. Unless Kessler stays off the ropes.
Its close. On accomplishments, skill and H2H ability he ranks very high. On resume, he ranks, much....much lower. Tho the people that say his resume sucks and he fought only bums are WAY off. Lacy, Bika, Eubank, Mitchell, Viet, Reid, etc. All VERY good fighters (you could definately argue that Eubank was great...not ATG tho). Add Kessler into that and it looks even better. If he wins...yes. If not...again, its close.
Replace Veit with Woodhall and Brewer... Still to blow an undefeated tall, technical guy like Veit away in 1 round was impressive.
He's not THAT impressive... I mean I realise he's a potential JC opponent and we need to hype him, but he's B+, on the same level as Pavlik and not a 'blown away' guy like Kessler is. Kessler's skill personally blows me away.
It's going to stay also when Calzaghe pounds Kessler into submission and stops him around the 9th or so. Most likely corner retirement, Kessler's going to get Lacyed. ....it's probably competitive, but I'm sticking with my fun prediction.:yep
