Say 7-5ish, over a 43-year-old Hopkins (one who fights only once per year, and who CALZAGHE fans themselves do not rate TOO highly these days), does Joe's ranking go down?

Or if this happens is it just a matter of Calzaghe fans under-estimating Hopkins?

I don't even listen to most Calzaghe fans. They are obnoxious and predictable. They spent months completely trashing Hopkins. Now that the fight is less than a week away, they are now trying to build him up. From my perspective, even though Hopkins older, inactive, and his legs aren't what they used to, a win over him is still a hell of an achievement. I don't care if it's 12-0 or 7-5, if Calzaghe wins he deserves credit.

I agree. I reckon Hops WILL win about 5 rounds, or so. And he does deserve credit.

But some of these guys say they will be disappointed if Hops wins more than a round or two and survives the distance? :patsch

Well if Hops is really so ****, a win over him means nothing, right? And if Hops is so **** and DOES manage to win 5 or so rounds, where is Calzaghe? (going by "Calzaghe fans" criteria)

I personally would be a bit disapointed, I am expecting a clear cut win for Calzaghe.

But Hopkins is obviously the number 1 LHW, so a win would be a decent one.

But if Hopkins wins 5 round I would be a bit disapointed.

Yeah, I remember before the Kessler fight, many kept posting that Kessler was overrated and a robot. After the fight, he becomes an ATG.

Calzaghe will be fighting someone with so much experience.. I do expect this to be a close fight and if Calzaghe beats Hopkins, close or by far, he'll get credit and a lot more respect.. But Cal will have his hands full.. An all out brawler against a great tech.. oh yeah

I expect a tough fight for Calzaghe but a UD. Anyone who thinks it's gonna be a walkover, I think, is much mistaken.

A win over Bernard is a win, I don't care what anyone says on his age and so on. Hopkins is still an elite and unique fighter.

a win over hopkins is a great win. he is the undisputed LW champion....plus, he is still a live wire. it will be a tough fight, but calzaghe will be at his best and wear hopkins down. this one comes down to stamina, and I have seen few fighters that are on the same level as calzaghe when it comes to sustained high level performance in big fights over the distance.

I'd be disapointed if Hopkins won more than 2 rounds at this point, because that would mean that Calzaghe wasn't fighting to the best of his ability for reasons otherwise. The best Calzaghe even at 36 should totally dominate the best Hopkins at the highly degraded 43, that's the point.

Hops is not ****, he's just NOW at a stylistic disadvantage because of age, he's still good and can beat some guys, but workrate monsters are the worst for him at this point.

I wouldn't go straight out and say that Calzaghe's ranking goes down (I have him 4th or 5th at the moment) but his all time ranking suffers as Hopkins would probably beat him prime for prime.

If Hopkins wins 4 rounds even, the possibility of him getting a gift win is high and even if Calzaghe legitimately took it 8-4, I'd be disapointed, he should blow this guy out at this point, throughly and utterly dominate him and stop him. So if that happened with the 8-4 scenerio and Hopkins got an SD, I'd blame Calzaghe for that and congratulate Hopkins.

I'll be happy with Joe if he does that. Unlike some fans, I like to see my guy performing at his MAXIMUM and against the top comp.

Thus why I was disapointed that Dawson wasn't as good as we thought, I wanted him to be a top, top elite so a showdown with Joe could happen and Joe could again get tested by a true elite like he was with Kessler, this is what I want to see, win or lose.

I garauntee, if Joe wins, close or not, the haters will still give him no props, and the fans will make do of it:twisted:
