if calzaghe only slaps, why didn't hopkins walk him down?

That's not Hopkin's style. He baits his opponent with feints and movement then he sticks them when they're coming in.

there are a few that hurt enough to stop you.
not everyone has to hurt but if 1 rocks your head back and you feel it in your boots you are going to be weary or how many of hem he can actually throw.

couldn't have said it better myself, I'll add that B-Hop didn't have a mark on his face after the fight.

Calzaghe threw with more power against Kessler and Lacey but those guys where alot easier to hit. Joe was just trying to score points and he did, that was a good adjustment on his part.

Another point is that when he DID walk him down in the 10th, he was insanely accurate with power shots. A bunch of guys working out their anal fixations are having a little trouble remembering that.

But with Joe dead set on coming forward all night, he never really had to.

Regardless if Calzaghe could hurt bernard, hopkins knew Calzaghe loves guys who fight aggressively. Hop knew this so was right to get on his bike.

Bernard doesn't walk anybody down anymore. How does that prove Calzaghe doesn't slap? Watch his ****ing fights and you'll see him punch with the inside of the glove a whole lot, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's the definition of a slap. :deal

Saying he slaps is not a knock on Joe as far as I'm concerned. He slaps to save his brittle ass hands, and he gets the job done with those slaps.

Cal not the same fighter now as he was 4 years ago,the one that stopped Veit and Mitchell, busted up Sheika, dominated Brewer in a war and obliterated Lacy. His hands have suffered something terrible from the accumulation of punches he's landed on his opponents.I can name three fights in which Cal was dominating and even close to stopping only to have one of his hands goe forcing him to box out a boring descision. This from a physical and phycological perspective has clearly affected his punching technique. He certainly was no slapper in his early days.Hop-Cal four years ago would arguably be more suitable for Cal with Hopkins younger age and superior conditioning making him a more attacking and less defensive prospect in such a fight which would only suit Calzaghe.

Yea i agree. If anything wouldn't it like, augment his ACTUAL power?

I mean think even if he's throwing with minute power with slaps....that means when he actually loads up he has power.

I would take it more as an adjustment to styles, then a knock against him?

It's the hard easy method. Calzaghe can punch quite hard. What about Hopkins? He could not hurt Calzaghe with his best right hand. It's difficult to fight an opponent who leads with his head, throws a punch and grabs. Yes, I thought of Ruiz last night.
