He will be forgoten because of the obvious thing everyone talks about being of course that his two biggest wins are very close decision over a 42 year old, and the other win against a very shot Roy Jones,

But that's not the main reason, the main reason is that he is retiring at 36... and at that age Bernard Hopkins, Roy Jones, James Toney, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis and many others were at the best times in their careers fan wise, money wise, and all with bigger names under their resume.

Calzaghe's only value in his resume are the names of two fighters that he beat at an age that his is so carefully trying and going to avoid, thats why Calzaghe will fade with time unfortunatly even if his undefeated record stand, thats if he retires today.

Or he can take the Mayweather road and retire, wish is the smart road to take honestly, but true champions and true legends are defined by the things they do when the odds are well against them. Wether Clazaghe is willing to take those steps is yet to be known.

Calzaghe's place as one of the greatest fighter's ever hail from Britain is secured. McGuigan calls him the best.

He will never be forgotten in the UK. If he is forgotten in the US their boxing culture will be the worse for it, he's a great fighter, if an *******.

Right now Calzaghe is hinging a very generous portion of his legacy on Kessler. If or when it is determined Kessler isn't what he was made out be it all comes crashing down.. Calzaghe will always be spurned and doubted for the Hopkins fight, questioned and debased for the Jones fight, and Lacy... Lacy fought on even terms with journeymen during much of the leadup to Calzaghe, people tend to forget that. Lacy is worth nothing.

He is a great fighter.... But I really ant say he dared to be great.. Sad..

He gets more respect than his fans try and say though.. Just because they overrate him so much, a sensible opinion is underrating hiim to them more often then not.. At least his is how I have come to see it.

Agreed. Particularly if Kessler has a great career.
