...he will need to fight Chad Dawson in the USA. That is the fight that will push him over the top--because he is not there yet--even after beating two largely faded legends. Calzaghe fans will argue that the fight will make more money in Wales, and so it should be held there as Joe's farewell fight. However, Joe's fights against Hopkins and Jones had pathetic attendance numbers compared to Calzaghe's UK fight against Lacy, yet these fights were held in the USA. So why change the pattern now...because he's fighting a P4P talent who actually is in his prime? Please, he already had to beat the lesser Kessler in the UK. Either retire Joe, or face Dawson in the States and find out just how good you really are. :good Let's face it, if Calzaghe comes to the USA and beats 27-0 Chad Dawson fairly, he will go down in history on the same level as Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr.: a top 50 ATG, and a First-Ballot Hall of Famer.
SHUT THE **** UP HONESTLY.. beating Dawson would prove ****. this time last month people were saying the same bout Pavlik. ****ing stupid ***** that u r
Why should he go to the USA? Joe doesn't need Dawson to go down in history as a great, he has already secured that. On the other hand Dawson has everything to gain, if he loses he lost to the proven best and if he wins he becomes the best. So you admit that it would make more financial sense to be held in Wales? Not sure what your argument is here as you seem to be undermining your own argument? Obviously though Enzo and Joe will be studying your disappointing words and will no doubt say "aww crap, Mr Axe has spoken. Now we have to consider what we can do to get his respect". Please think before posting, Dawson is the challenger if he wants a shot then he should go and take it wherever it is held.. so lets see how much of a challenger he is. Also beating Dawson easily will no doubt bring all the comments "Ah well Dawson was not ready, however John Doe here is fresh, young and hungry.. to be considered as ATG he would have to beat him" and so on.
Of course that is the case, Joe calls the shots. What I am pointing out is that Calzaghe will simply get more credit if he does the job in the USA, rather than if, say, he receives a contested decision in the UK.
Dawson should come to Cardiff, Joe has been to the US if Dawson wants a chance now he should come to Wales and earn it if he wants it that badly!
Calzaghe's already a first ballot hall of famer. The IBHOF has a pretty weak set of standards, and Calzaghe already fits comfortably into the middle third of hall-of-famers.
if he wants to be a first ballot hall of famer he has to... retire now and wait for the call in five years please these threads have to stop im not the buggest fan of the guy either but you cant argue with what he's achieved there'll always be a chad dawson on the horizon if he keeps fighting on so get out now
As there is probably a rematch clause in RJJs contract with Calzaghe, this may all be a moot point. The only fight that JC will take now is a further beat down of an old, shot man in Cardiff
Dawson cant draw flies to ****. There is not one name in America worth travelling for anymore, Hopkins and Roy Jones are two of the biggest names in the game so made sense to travel. Calzaghe is the Champion, Calzaghe is the HOFer, he doesnt have to bow down to any demands made by an unknown like Chad Dawson. HBO might not even want this fight, American fans dont even know who Dawson is... "IF" Calzaghe fights on and he doesnt have to by any means, but if he does it should definately be in the UK in a packed out arena, MEN, O2 or even better, the Millenium Stadium.:deal
IMO, he is not. The HOF does not have very high standards for entry anymore, but they DO still have very high standards for being selected via first-ballot.
