Dosn't really matter if he fights the same opposition. Had he been American that may not have been the case, so I guess there might be somthing to this topic.

If he was American, I think the world would have taken notice of him much earlier, and he would have fought the top guys of his division much earlier too.

Please, he would have lost of he was American. He would have (at some point) had to fight prime, peak competition and wouldn't be undefeated. No way would he have gotten away with fighting Eurotrash for the WBOgus title.

Boxing fans/pundits tend to be especially critical when they see a 0 (zero). It's not necessarily a racial thing.

If he was American and his career took place here in the states the whole time, he would have lost his 0 very early on

Ottke would have gone to the States. Doubtful.

SMW was a Euro-dominated division, being American wouldnt have changed his comp that much.

Anyway, if he was American his profile would have been bigger, making him a more attractive option for Hopkins to take the fight in 02.

Thats the only difference it would have made, but it's a big one, the result of that fight either way would have impacted the course of his career.

And If Lacy wasn't so brave and didn't decide to go across the pond, Calzaghe would be having his trilogy with Mario Veit.

I think as a fighter if you pretty much beat two young hungry lions and two old lions in your class than you're pretty much in.
