He must have had some profile because every well-known American fighter and writer was predicting Lacy to KO Calzaghe early.

 

Calzaghe does not really have a personality.

 

**** right off. Lacy was labelled 'the mini Mike Tyson' by the Amewrican media. He was a huge hypejob.

 

Lets not talk ****, I can go pick out 20 odd old pieces of writing from americas boxing so called ''experts'' that all pick Lacy, lacy ''the next Tyson''. If we didnt have a forum crash we could have gone picked out some old threads and laugh at all the Lacy nuthugging that was goign on back then, like Paul Williams today nobody claims to have backed him!

 

You insinuated that Roy Jones would have a harder time with Lacy than Calzaghe did. I disagree. Roy would've beat the hell out of him then knocked him out. All this "if he would've connected" bull**** is ridiculous. If Lacy would've connected on Calzaghe he may have knocked him out as well. However, that didn't happen. The chances of Lacy knocking out or even hurting Roy at 168 are slim to none.

 

lol...very true. It's probably harder to become a big star if you're born American. There's plenty of fish in the sea, Hopkins didn't get the recognition until late in his career. I mean over there you're competing for the limelight against the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield etc. As it is, guys like Hatton and Calzaghe get a lot of fanfare from their countrymen, as do quite a few other boxers who come from countries that don't have such a spoilt choice for top class fighters. Plus, power punchers are always much more hyped than a boxing purist.

 

Then I believe the demand for his ass to fight somebody like Jones would have been greater. It was really beneficial for him to rack up defenses in obscurity with no threats and no one giving a damn. They felt no pressure to fight a live body or take a challenge for years. Imagine what Mosely or Tito's record would have been given the same luxury.

 

He wouldnt be labelled with any of the above names! Thats for sure! He would be a living legend by now-an all time great, a megastar whose name would be known all over the planet.

 

He would still be slappy.

 

I have much respect for Calzaghe, dare anybody to find one post where I've hated on him.

This is hard to say. In America, his competition would have been different names anyway. Would they have all consisted of what are considered to be B level or lower?? Would he have been more easily matched against a couple marquee fighters??

If the answer is still no, America is full of fighters with "padded" records too, and they get **** all respect. Just think of a Tye Fields for example. NO love, despite a large winning record, it's crap. Many more Tye Fields out there too.

And lastly, it seems to get overlooked time and again, that in US it doesn't make a **** where you may have come from, only that your willing to come here and fight and show what you've got. Not demand our respect from afar.

 

Maybe so, but that's just my assumptions vs yours...no one can prove it at all, you or me

 

Had Lacy won, you wouls all still be praising him as the nex Tyson..the fact that Joe beat him, changes all that...If Joe beat a prime RJj...Toney...Eubank, etc= you STILL would give him no credtit...you would lable them as overhyped

 

Well yeah maybe that AND the fact he has since gone life and death to pull a close decision over Manfredo. Same Manfredo that got embarrased by Calz and just about got his ass beat by David Banks on FNF's.
