Guys, Joe Calzaghe is REALLY good. Too bad you didnt see Joe Calzaghe when he was younger. Dont let the 1st round flash knockdown against BHop fool you. There is a reason BHop couldnt finish Calzaghe and beat him. I know BHop is 43, but BHop has a tough style to deal with, and notice how Calzaghe easily adjusted, where very few could do that. If Calzaghe didnt have bad hands, I think BHop would have been knocked out, so I think BHop is fortunate. To me, Calzaghe is a lot like Mayweather. Very smart and very talented.

I think perfectly well before I post unlike some. And I'm no fanboy, I actually though Reid beat him though I accept I was in the minority on that one. So if he was born in the States someone would have held a gun to his head and forced him to fight three guys who were never in the same weight class? Hopkins would have been a none starter for one, he wasn't stepping up in weight and Calzaghe could not have made middleweight. He has been a super middle all his career and therefore those guys were a non-starter.

So Calzaghe would have been cool with being a no-name?

If he was born an American, and lived in America, those 3 guys were the best in and around that weight division. And the most popular. So even if he did get a little recognition off of his other "wins", eventually he'd have to face one of those three in order to be considered p4p... And he loses to them all, too.

If he doesn't face them (i.e. has the same resume as he does now), he'd be less known then he is now. So he should thank God that he was born in Wales.

He'd have a lot less European fans that's for sure. They'd see through the fasade.

Agreed...Just making a point that Joe would have had to beat an actual top or elite level fighter to make an official stamp that he is or could be considered a legend. Like James Toney, Roy or anyone of the other names I mentioned. At this point Joe is a great fighter with many question marks surrounding his career due to his lack of engaging in fights with guys on his level.
