If Canelo Alvarez beats Kovalev, would he be the best Mexican boxer of all-time?

Honestly, the significance of the victory depends so much on how Kova looks. Lets be real, Ward gets **** for fighting a Kova that was looking sketchy heading into their fight. And up until he just avenged his loss in the last fight, all Ive heard is how on the slide Kova is. I am on record saying I dont think Kova ever again gets a real high profile win (Bivol, Beterbiev, ect). And I thought he looked like straught garbage a two fights ago.

So that has to be taken into account. If Kova comes out, and looks bad... and is a guy that many other top fighters from 160 n up would beat, I don't rate the win that high.

However, if Kova comes out looking good... shows hes in form, and Canelo ia able to diamantle a good looking Kova... thats a great win, imo.

One thing I will do no matter how Kova looks, is give credit to Canelo for making the fight, if it does get made.

    ....

That all being said... even if Kova is in very good shape, a semi past it Morales beating a prime Pac and then turning southpaw in the last round is better, regardless, imo.

I wouldn't say that Pac was prime back then. Physically, yes, but he was still very rough around the edges and relied mostly on his power.

He'd have an argument for being the greatest ginger Mexican fighter of his generation if Kov was still prime. However, prime Kov hasn't been seen since about 2015 and I've been saying as much since then as well. 2019 Kov (no catchweights or rehydration clauses) is still formidable but not the terrifying force in his heyday and he's significantly a lot easier to beat now than he was back then.

JCC's generation of fans is almost gone, so based on how fans view greatness from their era, I say it is possible that he could be viewed as an ATG Mexican.

Will history be kind to his loss to PBF? & when comparing him to Zarate, JCC, Sanchez, Arizemendi, Pintor to name a few, that's a tough class to join, let alone surpass.

he wont beat Kov even if he did get in the ring with him. It'd be like Thorin Oakenshield vs Gandalf. Well a younger years version of it.

Nah. Mexicans and chicanos have been doing this for a long ****ing time and have produced countless greats. For me to even give him the props that Sergei's name brings if one beats him, this fight would have had to take place at least 3-4 years ago. If he did fight Kov and beat him, I dont know if id be impressed, disgusted, or indifferent.

Kov is well into his slide from peak right now and has been for some time. That said, hes still a murderous puncher with GREAT skills and a significant height and reach advantage. But what Kovalev would show up for this fight? I think him taking this would be a cash out and hed be blackout drunk throughout camp and during his ring walk. Mentally hes not the same guy that he was before Ward.

And if Canelo moves up to LHW and beats a still very good but still sharply on the decline Kovalev, come the **** on!!! Its almost impossible for me to NOT LIKE a Mexican or Chicano fighter, but I cant stand this clown. If this ginger dickhead ever bathes -- its solely in corruption. I wouldnt even watch this live even though it provides me with a good chance to see ginger boy get stalled out on live TV around the world or stream or whatever. I can't stand and hate him THAT much. Even if Kovalev decapitated Canelo, I wouldnt even watch the replay. I hate him so much now I'm just indifferent.

For a fighter to rightly be in consideration as Mexico's GOAT boxer, they shouldnt need so much corruption on their side to win. Plenty have gone before Canelo and threw their stake in the ground on talent and skill alone. Dont disrespect the real G's.

People seem to have this idea that Canelo intends to fight even this past-prime version of Kovalev on a fair footing.

    Newsflash: no, he's not.

IF the fight ever happens it is almost guaranteed that he will catchweight Kova and dehydrate him to a point where he is no longer effective. Think about it. Canelo has dried out virtually every other opponent that has some sort of size advantage on him. He did it to Jacobs, Chavez Jr, tried to get GGG to 155 and heck, he even felt the need to catchweight Rocky Fielding. 99% guarantee that any fight with Kovalev will be at T-mobile with special judges at a weight that renders Kovalev useless.
