Canelo vs GGG will happen for the simple reason that it's(Canelo vs GGG) the biggest fight in the business. Huge rewards even for the loser(which more than likely will be Canelo) in this fight.

Oscar is in the business of making money by staging big fights not in the business of protecting Canelo, and from the looks of it this fight is already way bigger now than it was a few months ago even if Canelo's reputation is taking a huge hit.

Do some of you really believe that Oscar would rather make pennies on the dollar by protecting Canelo?

For better or worse, Oscar is trying to use some aspects of the Mayweather vs Pac money-making blueprint. Only problem IMO is that Canelo does not have higher profile alternatives (Hattons, Margaritos, Mosleys, Maidanas, etc) that either FLoyd and Pac did to keep the "marinating" from taking longer.

In regards to the Smith fight at 154, it's simple. Canelo becomes a champ again at a weight he has been claiming he's most comfortable at. Won't erase any of the bad press he's been getting but will fool some of the casuals and the controversy will only fuel the speculations and anticipation of his next opponent. WIll he stay at 154 to unify with one of the other champs or will he now test the waters at 160 to get ready for GGG. In the meantime, Golden Boy will hope that GGG's profile has benefited from all the controversy and Canelo bashing and his own PPV drawing power is benefited by this, thereby making the clash a huge PPV success.

Going back a couple of months ago, to your contention that GGG would have to accept "Canelo Weight", 155 lbs. in order to get into the ring with Canelo. The WBC will NEVER force Canelo to "give up the belt". YADA YADA YADA.

O$CAR/GBP said a week or so ago that they "had an AGREEMENT to meet GGG in the Fall of 2017".

How does fighting at JrMW against a the weakest JrMW prepare you for GGG? If he fights in December against a WW or another soft touch JrMW how will youview that as preparation for Golovkin? By fighting at JrMW after saying they needed to prepare for MW seems clear to me, they don't want the fight right now. I do agree that they are looking at the Pac/Floyd model only difference is Canelo has all the youth on his favor and Golovkin doesn't. They will push for the fight when GGG slows down or after 2018, not in 2017 by the looks of it.
