If Canelo beats Planet and Saunders and becomes undisputed, where would you rank him all time at SMW?
Who would the guys above him be? IMO, Calzaghe, Ward and Froch are clearly ahead of him. Kessler, Eubank, Benn? Who else is there? (**** division and I don´t really know much about it´s history.)
Jones and Toney, too. I'd have Collins and Ottke above him, Eubank and Benn (even past prime) twice each is definitely more impressive than what Canelo's been doing. Same with 20 title defences. Canelo is a more impressive fighter than either, IMO, but he hasn't done as much at the weight. And probably won't ever.
If he beats them clearly he has to be #1 168, if its close decisions he gets #2 spot below Andre Ward and sharing #2 with Calzaghe|Ottke
Jeez. He's only had 2 SMW fights and one of those was against Rocky from Stocky (no disrespect). A bit early to be placing him amongst the best of all time in the division.
ward and calzaghe have to be the benchmarks. ottke doesn't deserve a mention for obvious reasons. it'd be like trying to bring felix sturm into the mix as a great MW, which would be absolutely ridiculous.
They would be very solid wins. He still wouldn’t have a deep resume, but he’d definitely be in my top 10 on a H2H basis, based on his ability.
You could rank him higher than them on a H2H basis. Collins has good wins over Eubank, but Benn was finished. And you can’t really count the first win as legitimate as Benn was injured. And his injury is the only reason that we saw a rematch. The wins are better on paper than what they are in reality.
Yeah, you could. But I don't rank like that. And while Benn was finished, it's still better than a win over Caleb Plant.
To rank him that highly, it would have to be done on a H2H basis. And if you’re ranking on a H2H basis, just in terms of his ability, then Roy Jones in his prime is the clear no.1.
