If Canelo fully unifies the division, he ranks very highly as a SMW imo. The elite top 5 for me is Calzaghe, Ward, Froch, Jones, Toney. In that order. If Canelo unifies the division he will definitely surpass Toney and Jones for me as he's shown a willing to fight the best SMW guys which they never did. If he sticks around and defends a few times against rated opposition he canove higher. Becoming the goat isnt unrealistic for him imo. I don't see anyone beating him at SMW any time soon, so I guess it depends if he sticks around or moves up to LHW.
froch was a gatekeeper on a par with kessler. i might put froch ahead of kessler due to his taylor win, but then i'd put ward ahead of calzaghe based on his willingness to move up and fight kovalev.
Toney faced everybody so did Jones they even faced each other at their peak. Froch does not have elite level skills.
Neither faced the other belt holders as a SMW. Considering his lack of skills, Froch compiled a pretty good resume in the division.
The other belt holders did not want to face them. Chris Eubank is very candid about this. In his words it’s lunacy.
Benn did not want it either. He said he was not ready for Michael Nunn you think he would be ready for those who destroyed the fantastic Nunn like JT.
Benn literally said he'd fight Jones Jr for free lol. You're too biased mate. I'm not getting into a fanboy argument with you. If Canelo fully unifies the division, I'd argue he's done more as a SMW then Jones and Toney. If you disagree, whatever, I'm not that passionate about this argument.
Callum Smith a monster? How so? KOing a past it small Ndam? Beating a shot one arm Groves? Having a competitive fight with a kickboxwer? Getting beaten by a limited fighter as Ryder? Callum Smith is simply a tall boxer who has no idea how to use his reach. No jab. His guard up 95% time was tailored made for Canelo. Let's not forget about that short camp and lack of sparring partners he had... Canelo cherrypicking example no. 1000
