Let me guess, 168 is trash but Cruiserweight is stacked. Did I guess correct?

I think factoring in actual/official wins is a big part of the logic. Not sure where imaginary/defense mechanism wins factor in

There could be an argument, but it would be a pretty weak one.

I am a huge fan of what Canelo is doing, but unfortunately WHO he's doing it against leaves much to be desired.
It's not Canelos fault, he doesn't make the ranking. But the guys we've been propping up for him to fight have been pretty weak for the most part outside of Danny Jacobs, and even Jacobs has turned out to be a bit of a dissapointment.

Honestly Canelo could prove more by just beating Charlo than he could any of his last 5 opponents.

Nothing arbitrary about it. David Benavidez is the only one worth even half a damn at 168. Even if I cherry-pick Floyd's career saying 'this or that doesn't count because of this or that reason' I can come up with at least five wins better than Benavidez.

One of them would be Canelo, who stupidly offered to meet Floyd at that garbage "152 catchweight" you so hate.

tszyu was inactive for a year and a half before the curtain came down on his career against mitchell and hatton, so there wasn't exactly a large window to make the fight.
also, castillo and corrales had very impressive KO ratios at LW, and floyd had no problem taking them on.

True, I also forgot about those. In general, I think there were higher profile fighters around in Floyd's era though.

Comparison is the thief of joy but no. I actually want the rubber match with GGG. Then Charlo. Plant and benavidez should fight and Canelo face the winner.

Canelo would be over Floyd if he beat him.

In terms of 'being over Floyd' meaning has he recovered from his first defeat "over it", then I think he has been for ages.

In many ways, the defeat by Floyd was the best thing to happen to Canelo.

Would unifying 168 elevate Canelo's achievemnts above Floyd? No.
Maybe if he went then up to 175 and unified there, he'd have a very good argument, but can't see that happening while Beterbiev and Bivol are there.

He should've never gotten the title, having gotten a shady decision over Derevyanchenko. He also got smoked by Pirog and lost in close efforts to Canelo and GGG. He's not all that and never has been.

Lol that draw card was a disgrace. The fight wasn't competitive.

    No

The controversy from several fights he could or should have lost will haunt him

The same can be said for Hatton after a few gimme decisions, e.g. Collazzo. JMM hadn’t done anything at ww, or whatever catchweight that fight was fought at. Both were above their best weights, Mosely was old, etc, etc. Point is, flaws can be found in most opponents if we’re looking.

Jacobs was a fine, establsihed MW opponent, and a top MW at that time, as evidenced by the razor thin losses to both of the top dog MWs at the time. He gave both guys good fights, heck, he could have gotten the nod vs GGG, as many fet he should have. Pirog was ages before that, and he was a beast who would definitely have been in the conversation of top MW for a long time if not for his own health issues.

Again, flaws can be found in most opponents of we’re looking for them.

i’m not even saying Canelo should be above Mayweather. I’m not even saying he should if he cleans out SMW. I’m saying if he cleans out SMW, and LHW, then he’d have a damned good argument.
