If Canelo doesn't fight Lara in July 26 its a duck

If gayweather doesn't fight Margarito, Martinez, or Pacman by the end of 2009 it's a duck.

Lara has no fan base. Only die hards want the fight. I hope he fights Lara in July too, and if he beats him then the Cotto-Martinez winner. But with the possibility of that fight in December, from a business standpoint, it makes no sense to fight Lara next. I can't knock him too much for it. Lara brings nothing to the table for a PPV fight.

 

Another poster who thinks fighters fight for props and not money....Man Lara couldn't sell out an elementary school....there is absolutely nothing that Lara brings to the table...had this fight been proposed a few years ago when Canelo was fighting his tomato cans I would have said yes fight him...but Canelo is a box office attraction now....him taking on Lara at this stage now would just be a big favor to Lara....

 

By favor to Lara and big favor to die hard fans. Are you not?

 

If Cotto loses with Martinez, Canelo has only 2 viable options @ 154 and these are Lara and Molina ( IBF jr MW title holder ).

Ya cant call it a duck, Canelo is being positioned by Showtime to be the next big PPV star so they have a say in who he fights next. TBH, while Lara is a great boxer but he is not must see TV. I think Sho would rather him fight Molina who is more marketable than Lara. As fan I would love to see it but Lara and most of the other Cubans are not an easy sell and in todays age they will always be overlooked be the big names.

Those first points aren't really from a business stand point. Business has nothing to do with him beating a pure boxer. It actually hurts business because casuals don't know Lara and would find his style incredibly boring. It's going to be on PPV. There's a chance it could do less than Alvarez-Angulo in PPV sales. And Canelo doesn't care what he said. You saw it in the video. He was even joking on him.

I hope he does fight Lara next. But it's not a duck if he doesn't. It just doesn't make sense business wise. You said it yourself. Canelo is such a star. It wouldn't matter who he fought. Why fight a guy that brings nothing that's a high risk when he probably makes more money fighting anyone else? With a possibly big time fight on deck. It's just realistic thinking now.

Also, Canelo seems like he'd fight anyone. If his team says "let's do Lara next," I'm sure he wouldn't object. But I highly doubt his team advises Lara next. It wouldn't be smart business. So it'd really be like his team is ducking Lara.

 

canelo has already followed up to lara's challenge by responding that Lara has to wait in line.
