Regardless of what we BELIEVE about the result.. If Canelo lost that fight, with a narrow card, even a MD loss. Do you think that it would affect his earning power going forward? Given the fight we saw, and it was close and competitive, a rematch could sell and Canelo would have a solid chance. I think if they fight again and Canelo lost officially he would suffer at the box office. He would have to rebuild. There would be no PPV for a Liam Smith let's get that out there.
Nope, promoters fixing the results so win/loss records stay in tact is one of the reason people stop watching boxing and join in with the UFC instead. Canelo is a Mexican icon, and if these scorecards continue to happen most Mexican fans including his own mother will see the fraud they are witnessing unfold. Were Tyson, LL, Ali and Canelo himself lose interest after their first loses? Nope, losses are apart of ****ing boxing. To not allow boxers to have losses makes a mockery of the sport.
I'll never watch UFC, its boring as **** to me. I'll never stop watching boxing, just because of a few corrupt officials usually situated in Vegas. I can easily miss most of the Vegas "shows"
I'm sure that Canelo appreciates that you don't implicate his mom in some sort of deceptive, money-making scheme. BTW Did you also take umbrage with one of the Horn vs Pac scorecards?
I've been a Pac fan since 2005 but never watched the Horn fight, and I can't judge if he was robbed or not. I don't like seeing my favorite boxers past their sell-by date losing fights they would never have lost during their primes. The Pac - Horn fight was only close because Pac has degraded so much as a boxer. Its a meaningless win/loss for me, much like most of RJJ latest bouts are merely "exhibitions" in my eyes.
I don't think it changes all that much because Canelo had a rematch clause that would've come into effect had GGG won. GGG still got the titles, most thought he won, so his negotiating power isn't really any worse than if it was a MD. The same number of people would've disagreed with the MD anyway. Most people buying the rematch would've seen the first fight anyway, they have their own opinion of what happened regardless of the judges. Yes, having a draw rather than a loss can make a difference in marketing, but on the other hand Canelo lost fans due to that 118-110 card, look at the heat he's getting because of Byrd.
as a triple g fan nothing of any practical importance has been damaged from it being called a draw, unless you lost money on it. he actually won the fight, nearly every unbiased observer thinks he won the fight, and he still has the belts.
Losing in a fight like that wouldn't have had any negative effect imo, in fact he would have probably got more credit for a good performance. When your own fans are booing you at the end of the fight, that tells it's own story.
