If Carl Froch manages to beat Jermain Taylor, it will be a huge achievement!

Hasn't anyone else noticed how poor Taylor's footwork is? He's forever crossing over his feet

Froch's footwork may be correct technically, but he's so slow I don't think it will be a factor in the ring. Against another fast boxer, it could be a factor. Not against Froch.

Beating Taylor starts it. Then he'l go onto fight Bute and Kessler beating both and showing to Calzaghe that he didnt need him and that infact he is better than Joe. Oh by the way im a massive Calzaghe fan as well sooo no favourtism :p

Everyone saying that Froch is slow, you'll see that Froch will beat Taylor by his jab. He will beat Taylor to his jab all day long, then hurt him with his power. Most likely to be a Froch UD but can't rule out a 6/7th round KO.

The guy has a lot of problems with coordination. Look at the Winky Wright fight or to the Spinks fight: he puts a lot of weight in his front foot when he throws the smashing right so he loses balance and can't reset easily... Yeah, he crosses his feet and he can't really fight on the back foot ( vs Hopkins, vs Wright and against ropes and corners). Happens that he has tree trunk arms and throws with reasonable speed. It's not like Froch has feather fisted Pascal in front of him...

Some good posts about Taylor's failings, Dorfmeister...but Froch's failings are greater and more serious, unless you assume Froch's got an iron chin and great power, and great heart and toughness...which makes his failings rather irrlevant...

#1, If you've been getting tagged repeatedly all night long, an iron chin is irrelevant when it goes to the cards.

#2, Great power means nothing when all you can hit is the spot where your opponent used to be.

#3, Froch's "heart" is completely untested.

    #4, Tough ain't enough. See points #1 and #2.

There's iron and there's iron like Andrade's chin...Bute for example described hitting against his face like hitting against a brick wall...

...if he's hard and tough enough and has good power, he'll keep moving forward risking all, if behind on the cards...and get the job done...(by definition). Is he? As you say, we don't know...:good

My point in this debate is simply this:

In my opinion a good performance from Taylor, and a win for Froch are mutually exclusive ideas. Ideas so antithetical to one another I can't even get my head around both at the same time.

Yes...that's why most of us give Froch less than 35% chance...

Imagine how Bute will look if Froch beats Taylor.. He's been a titlist longer than froch and has been getting more hype yet there isn't one elite fighter on his resume..

If Froch comes through in this fight, there would be PAscal and Taylor on his resume which overshadows bute's..

Excellent matter for thought booradley. Can Taylor fight at his best and Froch still win? I don't think these two ideas are antithetical 2 1 another 4 one's head. Sure Froch's heart is untested but so r his so-called failings b'cause he has kept on winning and Cus D'Amato has said that it's very hard to beat an unbeaten fighter b'cause he doesn't know that he can be beat. So I'll go on to agree dat tough ain't enough once you get tagged repeatedly and you hit thin air while you're getting hit... Last but not the least, Decebal has a point in asking that hardness, toughness, hit powerin looking for IT and being behind on the cards... But I turn the table around - if he's hard, tough, powerful, if he hits Taylor first, how the hell does he get behind on the cards??? Just cause he has a big mouth? Even his mouth is untested thus far, and his slow feet and more! Unlike Taylor whose "failings" are known so I'll go on to believe more in Taylor's failings than in Froch's simply cause I don't know these.

Just wanted to bump this thread before the fight...

I think we can all agree more or less that if Froch gives Taylor a very good fight, as long as Taylor performs very well, Froch proves not just that he is indeed a world class fighter, but also one who could give all the others in the division a good run for their money and even beat them, whether Froch actually beats Taylor or not.

If Froch does actually beat Taylor and Taylor performs to his usual high standard, he should get a lot of credit, particularly since he's fighting abroad, I think.

For what it's worth, if Taylor gives a top performance and Froch beats him, whilst performing at his best himself, I will consider Froch as one of the top SMWs in the world, alongside Bute and Andrade, somewhere in the Top 4.

So...good luck to Froch and good luck to Taylor, here's hoping it's going to be the great fight we're all anticipating...and may the best man win!:good

I agree with pretty much all you said. Just because you lose doesn't mean your a bum, been exposed or overrated. It can just mean you lost. No shame in losing some if your fighting in competitive matchups.
