I was reading about this famous match where apparently Lewis turned his head and dropped his guard to speak to the ref and George KO'd him in round 1! If Ted had not been so foolish and kept his guard up how do you see the rest of the figth going? Could The Kid have pulled of an upset or would Carpentier have KO'd him anyway in a later round?
As tough as Lewis was, and was plenty, defeating a full blown LHW with the skill set and KO power of Carpentier was a big ask, The kid was more than capable of beating MWs, and world class MWs, but Carpentier was a gritty, brave, and tough man himself, Kearns " Jack ,be careful that Frenchman has dynamite in his right hand " as a callow 19 year old he went 17 and 19 rounds with both Papke and Klaus, cant see Lewis stopping him, reckon Georges will catch up with him sooner or later, not before a spirited effort from the iron boned Ted " kid " Lewis. stay safe buddy.
You can do more than read about it, you can watch it here - This content is protected I agree with Mel & Mike, whilst Ted was by far the greater fighter p4p, the size disparity vs Carpentier was always likely to be too much for him.
Oh amazing, for some reason I assumed it was not filmed! Quite a good scrap as long as it lasted. Looks like they are still being separate by the ref and George sneaks in an upper cut which staggers Lewis and then the ref backs off and Carpentier nails him! Looks like Ted maybe expected the ref to caution George for the uppercut, it looked like that punch hurt him anyway with the next punch the coup de grace.
