If Castillo really broke 4 ribs why was he fighting last night so soon after he broke them :huh They must take longer than that to recover at his age. Also how can 1 punch break 4 ribs given Ricky Hattons hand isnt big enough to connect with 4ribs?

I think the talk about 4 broken ribs isn't true. I think Castillo took a painful bodyshot, could have got up but couldn't handle being in another war after so many wars. He saw things going against him, like the unfair point deduction, not getting paid for the fight and wasn't sure if he'd get out the round after being hurt by a bigger man and simply didn't have the eye of the tiger any more.

Saying he had 4 broken ribs sounds a bit better than 'I can't stomach another war, the going got tough, I'm an old man and I can't put myself through this anymore'

another possiblity is that the truth is somewhere in between your argument and his statement.

instead of four broken ribs, maybe it was four fractured ribs. and of course fractures and breaks can vary wildly between a slight hairline fracture right up to "bone sticking through the skin" type break.

i agree. seems a little odd if it was 4 cleanly broken ribs. my guess is that he had brusing on the bones or hairline fractures which can be healed relatively quickly.

In medical terms a fractured bone is a broken bone.

I don't know where this stuff about JLC not getting paid came from.

Gary Shaw tried to hold back his check from that Hatton fight but did not follow the complete legal process with the judge so JLC was supposed to get paid. Did I miss something?

Firstly, it was reported that two ribs broke. Secondly a break can also be known as a fracture, it could also be hairline. Ultimately it doesn't mean he had four shattered ribs. Plus they fought in June, that's four/five months ago.

I think if JLC threw the fight away, there can only be one logical reason for that - Ricky came out more aggressive and sharper than him and made him realize that he had a mountain to climb before he had things turned upside down. JLC wanted to rematch with PBF and saw in Hatton the perfect door for a way out of his finantial situation and possible millions coming ahead, didn't work that way, those are the hazzards of their profession. I genuinely believe Hatton took all the steam from Castillo in the first 9 minutes and drove all the wind out of him with that shot... The number of ribs broken or what Floyd thinks about that have absolutely nothing to do with what was a very effective and impressive performance from the Brit.

Broken ribs take about 3-4 months to heal fully. Two fractured ribs would take about that time. He would not have time to prepare for another fight so damned soon no matter what.

IT was bull****. And Castillo was ****ING FIGHTING FOR FREE THAT NIGHT. B/c he was in debt to his promoter and it was ****ing talked about before and DURING THE FIGHT. Manny Steward said that early. As well as he, having seen Castillo fight numerous times, said he looked shot not even 1 minute into the fight and looked like he was on bad legs.

I broke a rib playing flag football and sat out the rest of the season. Hurt for months to breathe, let alone sneeze. First game back the next year, I broke the same rib. That's was the last contact football game I ever played in. I kind of doubtful that Castillo really broke 4 ribs. Most likely the shot by Hatton just hurt so much that he could not continue. Bruised, not broken, in other word. It just sounds macho to say "yeah I had 4 broken ribs but went back in the ring in just a couple months". That can't happen.
