Taylor was totally finished at the end of 12th. At least it'd be useful to shut up the Chavez naysayers who claim that the corpse of Taylor should have been allowed to win because there where 2 seconds left
Taylor was done at the end of the 12th even by his own admission. (He claims that making 140 took a toll on his body and he was essentially completely dehydrated in the last 3 rounds.) If he comes out for the 13th in the condition that he was in (no longer able to move or keep Chavez off him, and he hadn't been able to do that since around the 9th round) then Chavez has a field day with him. Chavez TKO 13, and Chavez-Taylor would be continually compared to Marciano-Walcott I due to superficial similarities.
I'm pretty sure that if richard steele had let him gut out the 12th round, that fight would have been stopped in his corner. He was so exhausted, dehydrated and bloody that he could barely stand.
Chavez would have out Meldrick in the 12th.Had no idea that Taylor was having problems making the weight, shame it caused him his career, however.
Not mildly debatable or funny...never seen a guy so beaten or helpless.one punch from a coma. This is the difference between people who have actually been in a boxing ring or who understand boxing...and those that have just observed from the padded safety of TV. Not funny.
Both of them would likely have paced themselves differently if it was a 15 rounder. It's quite possible we would have ended up with a very similar outcome to what did occur. Then again Taylor was never a smart fighter so maybe he would just have done exactly the same and been worn down around the same time. But that assumes that Chavez would be inflicting punishment at the same rate as if he knew he only had 12 rounds to get it done. With the knowledge he has extra rounds, you might end up with him and Taylor throwing less punches and as i was saying, a very similar outcome i the end. But let's face it this was a fight that hung on a knife edge as far as a Chavez win goes. How many times is he going to get a stoppage so late against Taylor? he hardly planned to leave it so late did he? i reckon seven times out of ten we get a battered Taylor scraping over the finish line if it's 12 rounds.Reverse that in favour of Julio if it's 15.
