Thats fair enough reasoning. However, for the 1st point, there are those who feel that Clottey DID beat Cotto, even with his ridiculously low output in the later rounds. For 2nd point, this actually leads me to why i think it wouldnt be such a great upset. De LaHoya as we know was almost totally shot at the weight, and had no speed or head movement. Hatton and Cotto also struggle with head movement and against a guy like Pacquiao that is a problem, and this showed. Clottey, however, is not shot, and is defensively much better off than the latter 2, due to his turtle shell like guard. There could also be an argument that he is in arguably better shape than all of those 3. Im not saying Pacquiao is not a phenomenal talent, and i do expect him to win this weekend. However, my point is, i agree it WOULD be an upset, though nothing GREAT about it because lets face it, Clottey is difficult to hit through his guard, has good speed and power, and a rock solid chin. The man is a beast at 147, and will enter the ring at a much higher weight. Added to the points i made above, and i feel comfortbale stating that this is Manny's biggest challenge yet, even more so than Cotto. I personally see it possible that there is a good chance that a top form Clottey could win, and if a fighter goes into a bout with that chance, if he does pull it off, it shouldnt be classed as some legendary upset. In the media, people would go crazy about it because the P4P king had been derailed, but us boxing fans know that Clottey always tests the best, and this could be his big break. So for these reasons, dont expect me to be starting ''all hail Clottey the upset king" threads if he does win on saturday night.
I think it would be a huge upset because i think Clottey has NO chance. Clottey does many things pretty well but he is severly lacking in one area, he has no fortitude. Clottey is one of the biggest excuse makers in the sport, he does a ton of whining. Pacquiao has a deep well of determination, heart, desire, all those intangibles that Clottey is so utterly lacking. When the going gets tough for Clottey on Saturday, rest assured he will disappear.
