...but history remained otherwise unchanged, with Louis reclaiming the title in the rematch by KO in the 8th (imagine the gate on that fight?)

1 - Where do you rate Conn pound for pound

2 - Who, if anyone, moves above Louis on your HW list?

I would still rank Louis high but not as high as Ali or Marciano but in the company of Lewis, Holmes, Jeffries and Johnson. I still wouldn´t rank Conn because I rank only 25 fighters and he wouldn´t make it. Still, great achievement.

Number one at light heavy if he could muster the same performance against Charles, theoretically speaking. This would hurt Louis' top 10 ranking combined with his other losses. Although being the first to regain the Title his ranking would drop to at least 3 or 4 places.

But in the p4p rankings, you've got a 170lb man who is beating a HW champ you rank alongside Larry Holmes - you don't think that achievment - on top of an already stellar career - is enough to make him to 25 material?

No, I don´t think I can. I can´t decide who to kick out instead. I mean I still don´t know if and were to include Gene Tunney.

Good point Loewe. If Conn beats Louis what about Tunney?

Yeah, I think he would crop up at the low end of these lists. What about pound for pound, any feeling?

I think an argument could be made for him at #2, though it would be tough to defend...I think the #2 slot would be up for grabs like the #3 slot is now.

To be clear - the outweighed Conn would be beating a peak Louis. That's the best win in boxing history, isn't it? Hard to keep the owner of such a win out of a top 15, never mind 25...

Yes. It is a question of logically defending that argument, however. Just as we see Lewis attacked for his "glass jaw" and having lost to two middling contenders during his prime, so Louis would become the brilliant champion beaten by a man he outweighed by 30lbs. That is a lot of baggage to carry around with Lennox, Rocky, Larry and Sonny breathing down your neck.

We might argue that the decision was close/controvertial.

Otherwise his volume of champions and ranked contenders would still make it hard to find a logical replacment.

The posters would still have to get behind one alternative name, to unseat Louis as No2, because otherwise the challenge would be split, and no one man would have more backing than Lou.

Well he was in front after 12 rds which is today's Championship distance, but of course the fight would have its dynamics radically altered ,because the fighters would have fought differently ,especially Louis.

Sorry I did not answer your question,Conn is in my top 5 LH's of those that were Champ, I don't have him very prominently at p4p.

If Conn had beaten Louis 1st fight I would probably put him in the top 20-25,I have Louis as the no 4 heavy, whereas ,allmost everyone has him either no 1 or 2,if he regained the title from Conn I don't think it would alter my ranking significantly, possibly I would demote him to no 5
