If Conor Mcgregor pursued boxing as a kid, would he have been a boxing champion?

We saw Conor Mcgregor's boxing skills when he took on the GOAT Mayweather and lasted 10 rounds (winning the first few)

Now imagine Conor trained stricly boxing from a young age. No grappling. No kicks or elbows or take downs. Just pure boxing and striking.

How far would he have gone in boxing? Pro contender? World champion? Lineal champion? ATG? Ali level?

Firstly, the Mayweather “fight” was a glorified exhibition. Floyd agreed to keep him in there to make it seem like a legit contest, which is certainly wasn’t.

To answer your question it’s impossible to tell. How his amateur career would’ve went, turning pro, getting the right fights at the right time. Potentially suffering a devastating loss early on, would he have been able to recover? Just too many variable and impossible to answer. What I do know is he’d be fighting in a very competitive and hugely talented division. He’d be up against top drawer fighters

Conor was a mediocre boxer and nothing about the way he operates in that cage fighting MMA garbage he does nowadays suggests to me he would, have been a particularly successful boxer ...amateur or pro.

Fedor if he started boxing early and stuck with it would be a much better bet imo. Especially considering how fast and powerful his hands were in his prime.

Prime Cro Cop was NASTY with his hands. Fast on the feet too. If he just focused on boxing he would have had a good shot. Go watch some of his old K-1 fights to see. Especially his fight against Remy.

McGregor has the mental toughness to be sucessfull in whatever he does. If he started boxing from an earky stage, I have no doubt he would have become a champion and go down in Irish history as one of their best fighters.

I can't he would have come a ATG, but I am more confident that he would have become a champion at least.

He was dropped by Khabib and hurt bad by Diaz in both fights neither guy is known for their power granted his conditioning played a part in being hurt against Diaz and with Khabib he was worried of the takedown but it still doesn't bode well if you want to go into boxing when guys like that are hurting you with punches. Also according to Floyd his power isn't very impressive. I doubt he would have done anything special in boxing.

McGregor could beat the likes of Guerreo or Aydin NOW, so I am sure he would be a great boxer. He's a fighter.

I'm Irish and know about Conor as a boxer. He was trained by a Good trainer ex-Top AMateur boxer Phil sutcliffe. Conor is a strong rough tough guy but by no means a great boxer. ...just a basic tough guy. Local level amateur at best. He just doesn't have the ability, sorry.

He does not have the ability today. However if he started in boxing and stayed in boxing all his life then it would be a different story would it not?

connor fights in a more dangerous environment so the mental toughness is there. looking at his mma record his 4 defeats have all been submission no knockouts or points defeats which suggests his stand up fighting game is strong and he has legitimate punch power. connor could of definitely been a boxing a champion and in all fairness he probably still could if he started strictly boxing. the trouble is with connor hes made that much money the motivation probably isn't there and he will only fight now for big paydays but id love to see connor fight a Jarrett hurd or someone along those lines to see how good he really is.

Perhaps I could have been clearer. Conor lacks the natural ability to even become a top boxer...no matter how much he trained at it IMO. Too slow clumsy poor reflexes poor stamina etc etc ..i don't think he ever could have "made it' as a boxer....not IMO.
