If Miguel Cotto beats Gomez. Then goes on to beat the winner of Margo/Cintron and Clottey in the next year then action must be taken against Floyd. Assuming that in this time Floyd fights another fight with Hoya, to another close decision definitely (whoever wins) and does nothing else he is removed from the #1 WW position and should be removed from the #1 P4P slot as well. There are just too many fighters knocking on the door, doing far too much to be ignored anymore. Calzaghe, Pac and Cotto will all have a claim at Floyds spot....more of a claim then he will have.
I dont know about removing him from #1 p4p... because knocking out hatton IS impressive. Mayweather SHOULD be at 140.... and Hatton is the king there, so it was basically a showdown of the two best 140lbers in the world IMO, not counting witter. I regard that win a very good one in the fashion he did it in. But... #1 at 147lbs???? crazyness.... if cotto beats gomez, then goes on to beat the cintron/margarito winner PERIOD... and by then all mayweather has done is beat oscar again, anyone who has mayweather the king at 147 needs some boxing 101 classes. Cotto will have beaten Mosley, Quintana, Judah, and Margarito... and literally cleaning up the division HIMSELF. and yet... unBELIVABLY.... there are going to be people in this very thread who will continue to keep mayweather as kng at 147... because... he got to baldomir first for the linear title.
If Cotto manages to do what you say, he will more than likley become the draw that Mayweather is looking for, and Floyd will more than likley be willing to knock his ass out.
I was going to make a thread exactly about this. I just read an interview with arum that the winner of margo/cintron fights Cotto. They vacate the IBF title so Joshua Clottey fights for the vacant IBF title. Then the winner of Cotto vs M/C fights the winner of the IBF title fight. So the line up for Cotto should he win all his matches is Gomez->Cintron/Margo->probably Joshua Clottey. I think should he win all these fights that he pretty much cleaned up the WW division. Im sure some of the Cotto haters will have something to say but come on the man cannot be denied. Hopefully this paves the way for Cotto vs PBF 2009, but then the question is when in 2009 because its rumored that PBF vs Hatton II will take place in Spring of 2009.
