If Cotto beat Margarito and De La Hoya convincingly to end the year and followed up in 2009 by convincingly beating the winner of Quintana/Williams 2 and Mayweather, would he be P4P number one?

I for one don't think he'll rematch Hatton or fight Pac but if he does and wins he'll still be P4P #1. Who else is there for Cotto to fight other than PBF that will provide him a stiff challenge? Who is Calzaghe going to fight other than a shot RJJ that would push him to the top since he's not going to fight Dawson. Pac is the only one I see if he fights Jaun Diaz and beats him I might consider moving him up. With that said as long as he keeps fighting an winning he can't be dropped.

Thats pretty much as high as you can go unless you knock Mayweather off his throne. The way I see it its 1. Floyd Mayweather and if Cotto absolutely dominates Margarito then 2) Pacquiao/Calzaghe/Cotto pretty much all have an equal right to claim top 3

 

WTF? How many years do you need Gayfeather to NOT do a damn thing before you consider him inactive? He hasn't done **** for the last couple of years. And I hope you don't count slapping around a cross dresser as being active!!

 

At this point I would agree; however, I for one can not understand why you or anyone else keeps mentioning the cross dresser. Who on earth has he beaten recently to even be considered as a "legitimate" win for a top welter? If you were to substitute Clottey and Berto in lieu of the cross dresser I would certainly think many people would consider Cotto P4P# 1. No matter what The Ring or anyone else says.

 

De La Hoya is mentioned because he has shown a real interest in fighting Cotto in December. He's obviously seen his best days, but he's still a quality fighter. Winning rounds against Mayweather and winning every round against an overmatched Forbes prove this. I wouldn't go as far as calling him an elite though, however, he's still better than a guy like Clottey or Berto.
