Mosley was over the hill, just like people retrospectively say that Kostya Tszyu was over the hill after Ricky Hatton beat him? I mention this because Mosley is 36, bout the same age that Tszyu was, and he hasn't fought in a while either. The one thing that Cotto lacks on his resume is the name of a genuine ATG legend, and Mosley fits the bill for that, but are people gonna say that Mosley was shot like they do with Tszyu?

I dont like it when this happens because a) its easy to be wise after the event, b) its direspectful to a great fighter and c) its based round Cotto hating and Hatton hating more than it is about those fighters they beat.

Can we all agree that Mosley is not shot, and if you think he is show some balls and say BEFORE the fight rather than coming out afterwards to say it.

Good point i remember 95% of people on here saying Kostya would starch Hatton but they were singing a different tune the days following the fight. Mosely isn't shot and i actually think he will beat Cotto late in an absolute classic. If Cotto beats Shane it his biggest win by a mile over an ATG who although he is not in his absolute prime he is most definately not shot. Mosely is a guy alot of people think is capable of beating Mayweather.

You have to expect some people to mention Mosely's age. Hatton has received criticism for beating a 36 year old Tszyu. Mayweather was criticised for going up in weight and beating a 34 year old DLH, and Pac was criticised for beating a 33 year old MAB. Anytime you're a young fighter and you beat someone as old as Mosely, the age question is going to come up.

The always do. It dosen't matter who's fighting who. Haters simply love to hate and no matter who a fighter has beaten, his resume can be shredded quite quickly and made to look ****.

The same ones who started this thread are the same assholes that does what Reg stated. Say that Floyd beat a past it ODH or etc etc. You cant tell until they fight. If you have any experience watching boxing and knowing the fighters you can tell if they are past there best by the way they fight. It is what it is. An older fighter like Mosley that keeps in shape it would be hard to tell pre fight. If Mosley hands are all of a sudden not as fast and his work rate all of a sudden drops. Then you know he is past it. Cotto has took more punishment as a fighter though, so it kind of evens out. That is why this fight is EVEN STEVEN. Shane is older, but Cotto has been in some rough fights and has been very active. So no complaints by me on the outcome as I think Mosley will have his moments but Cotto is going to barrage him late.

I think they'll use the old excuse if it's shows in the ring. When Hatton fought Kostya Tszyu you can tell that Kostya did look slow in the ring and you can see it wasn't going to be a good night for him when he faced Hatton. Another example is when Hatton beat Castillo. You can tell that Castillo look slow and old when he lost to Hatton. If Shane looks slow and old in the ring then Cotto deserve the critisism that he fought an old fighter. If Shane looks good and still loses Cotto have to be given his props for beating a great fighter.

You can tell from the way people fight that thye're pas it. For instance, the way Castillo fought against Ndoudjdoudjo and Hatton was not his best, so I think its fair to say that he was well past his prime, if not totally shot. However with Tszyu he fought a good fight, it was neck and neck until the stoppage, it was just his time. Yet people make the excuse time and time again, Tszyu was over the hill. for the record I dont think Mosley is past it at all, and even if he loses unless he totally stinks the joint out I'm prepared to put that down to Cotto rather than Mosley being shot.

There is no doubt that some people will say this. If Mosley looks shot, then it is warranted. But if he puts up a hell of a fight and looks good, then it is not.

Mosley is definately passed his prime but im still picking him to beat Cotto.

i wont make excuses personally but its a given that some people on here think that being past your prime automatically means that you are shot so expect to see that if Cotto wins.

Good post Toopretty. I agree with this 100%. It will all matter on how Cotto would beat Mosley. If Cotto comes out on top of an all out war, then no one will say much about Mosley is shot. But if Cotto just steam rolls his ass in there, and with people's familiarity with Mosley, then we will then know he was shot.
