If Cotto can't be Trout, why does he think he can beat Martinez @ 160?

You guys can't have it both ways. Sure, Cotto is taking this fight primarily for financial reasons but will also be trying to better his legacy with a win.

Cotto is challenging himself by moving up to fight the "best"(for my money it's GGG) middleweight and a chance at his 4th div belt.

Talking about his cashing out. yes it pays the most because its a huge fight and hes doing it for Legacy. if people think, that Cotto think he doesnt have a chance, they lost there damn minds!! Roach knows whats up. Told Cotto best chance to get him, time to fire on him!!

    2 reasons

    - Martinez is old/injured/past prime
    - I don't think Cotto was motivated well for the Trout fight, I think he will be better motivated vs Martinez

So, your confidence in Cotto's ability to execute a 'constant pressure' strategy is to point to a fight in which he:

    - Did minimum damage beyond a nose bleed,
    - Didn't slow down the opponent with his allegedly 'great' body attack,
    - Won, at the most generous scoring possible, 4 rounds.
    - Lost all the championship rounds, including dayum near getting decapitated in the 12th round

Now you want him to do this against guy who is naturally bigger, punches harder, and has been BEGGING for this matchup?

    Yeah, okay.

Martinez is arguably more skilled than Cotto. And if Martinez is even a shade more than just a shell of his former self, Cotto's 'skillset' (medium speed, easy to hit, shortarmed fighter with stamina and chin issues) is not the type to bother him.

SM should be able get it done but what does trout beating cotto have to do with anything ? i dont know if trout and SM could be any further apart with their styles.

with SM stamina issues, chin issues and lack of defense anything can happen.
LOVE it if cotto got in his ass

Martinez is not more skilled then Cotto. STamina issues?? when have u seen that?? Chin Issues?? havent seen that either, Martinez is the one thats been down 4 of his last 5 fights so gimme a break.

Im not saying easy fight for Cotto, or Martinez, but to think somehow this is a cake walk for Martinez is Ludacris and im not talking the rapper!!

Martinez off injury, fighting a small bully that works the body to Martinez's non defense self, hes gonna have to be on the run, MSG,20k Ricans, day before PuertoRican day parade....GOOD LUCK TO MARTINEZ :lol::lol:

$3000 on Cotto, gonna be a great summer :happy

Even a terribly shot Martinez is better than Trout in almost every concievable way.

    Speed - Martinez
    Power - Martinez
    Coordination - Martinez
    Reach - Martinez

I can't think of a single area Trout is better in. People have said defense, but Trout has been down in his last 2 fights too. There is no way you could tell me Alvarez would knock Martinez down.

Also, the argument that Cotto will get to Martinez is invalid, because Mayweather is a soft puncher. Martinez is a hard puncher with a thudding jab.

Even if Miguel loses (which, unless something fluky happens, he will), there's no better tissue to blow your nose and sop your tears up with than a soiled $100 bill. And he'll have plenty of Kleenex boxes filled with those to use.

Pedro Diaz is worthless in the professional ranks...he was only good at teaching amateurs in the old system that has now been retired. That isn't boxing.

Cotto under Roach is offensive minded once again, throwing combos, attacking the body and much better conditioned.

Sergio looked shot in his last fight and that was like two years ago.

    Anything could happen.

Might as we'll give that money to charity. Cotto will be looking into a pen light flat on his back. If Martinez us healthy.

BTW Trout is so overrated. He got outboxed by Canelo:lol:

i agree cotto should be better with a real trainer but how the phuk can you conclude he will be in better condirion ? never mind he will be weighing in between 156-159 what makes you think he will be in better condition ?

i thought his last fight only went a couple minutes.. so we didnt see anything that could possibly conclude his conditioning will be any different.. best condition i seen in him was the floyd fight. yes he lost all the championship rounds but that was because floyd wanted to win them

Well he is in position where he doesnt have anything to lose, Sergio fight is the best financially i guess, and he can become MW champion which would be huge and i repeat with nothing to lose.

Barring Sergio being completely and utterly washed up, Cotto wont win a round.
