If Cotto upsets the odds and beats Money does that make him top p4p or does his loss to Pacquiao relegate him to 2nd place? Thoughts?
No, no and no. Even if he dominated Mayweather and ended with a KO. But, if he then rematched Pac and won decisively I think he should make the top spot. However, we are all dreaming here - Cotto is in for a slow and steady beatdown
No. P4P is not just based on one victory. It amounts to the quality of victories in recent bouts IMO. Mayweather is a great scalp, but no...Cotto has not done enough to reach the top of the sport, taking his recent victories in to consideration.
Cotto has a great resume well Margarito and Mayorga dont do too much p4p I have Floyd at 1 if Cotto wins he wouldnt get 1 because Manny at 2 beat him Cotto would then have to rematch Pac which Arum would love because they could really build that up probably do it at Dallas and point out Cotto's record in rematches plus he beat Floyd
Depends on how it happens. Eg if its a lucky punch, or if he completely dominates him. I think if cotto wins alot will be put down to Floyd being overrated to be ranked p4p number 2 at this stage of his career. Because really ince his comeback, he has fought Marquez who was in terrible shape, Mosley, who's following draw to Mosley showed how shot he was, and Victor Ortiz who mentally lost the plot as predicted early in there fight. Floyd has looked very impressive since his comeback, but if he looks terrible against cotto, i think questions will be more asked about how good really was floyd at this stage of his career. All hypothetical of course
Miguel Cotto is currently 11th best P4P boxer in the world. If he beats Mayweather he would become the number 2.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, not bad to watch but the most over rated fighter in years!!!!
It would probably be the best win anyone in the top 5 has gotten within the last 4 years, besides arguably Marquez getting robbed against Manny, which hasn't propelled him to the #1 spot like it should be, if you consider the best victories in your division deserving of the higher placement. So #1 or #2 would be very fair. He's already one of the best (if not the best) and most accomplished fighters at 154, so this win won't be propelling him by itself, but greatly increasing the weight of his status.
fair points. maybe i rushed in a little ignorantly by suggesting only no 1 or 2 p4p status. I should amend this
If Cotto wins, he probably would be P4P#2 on the list with Manny being P4P#1, even though Manny's win over Cotto is a bit tainted due to the all the situations surrounding the fight.
I've seen guys getting on this list with much lesser wins. He'd be top 5 without a doubt, probably top 3... Won't happen tough.
