If Cotto had more Stamina, he would have won.

Congratulations to Antonio Margarito. He wore down Miguel Cotto. The 1 game plan that everyone counted on worked. So congrats to him. Many props.

I think Margarito won this fight simply on his superior stamina, NOTHING MORE!

    rounds 1-6, i had a sweep for Cotto 6-0.

    round 7 & 8, i gave to margarito (with 8 being close)
round 9, i gave to cotto
round 10, i gave to margarito
    you know the rest.

Cotto's legs IMO simply just gave out on him. Also, i thought he should have tried to hold a bit, but his pride got in the way, which i dont have a problem with.

hopefully, cotto will learn from this and he will increase his stamina training in the gym. i believe if he had enough stamina, he would have easily won that fight. he was pretty much puttin on a boxing clinic thru the 1st six rounds.

but once again, Margarito win with hiis superior conditioning.

    congrats to margarito nation.

even moreso, congrats to the boxing fans.

I'm also on the side that the fight was about what Cotto didn't do, rather then what Margo did. But I'm sorry this is plain BS.

If Hearns had a better chin he might have been the greatest ever, if Arguello was faster, if Pep had more power...even the greatest fighters ever have a flaw, they are human.

totally agree, and Cotto should have kept the fight in middle of the ring instead moving around so much, alot of unessary movement. He has the skills and speed to keep it in the middle.

First of all Cotto DOESN'T have more stamina, never did, and that's one of the key reasons he was never going to win this fight. Only a delusional fan or complete idiot could have missed seeing the REALITY of that fact. Secondly, Margarito was ahead on the scorecards and coming on strong at the end so NOPE. SORRY.

Yeah guys its not stamina problems, it is that Margarito pushes his opponents, puts them where they have never gone before. You guys are forgetting that Margarito landed some nasty uppercuts, which is his best punch. Just because he is slow doesnt mean he doesnt have power. The guy is a big big welter, which Cotto obviously aint accustomed to fighting. This is what makes Margarito, Margarito. The same thing happened to Clottey, Cintron. He beats the steam out of you.

Wasn't that just plain awesome?!!! Hands down the best $100 I've spent in a long time. Absolutely sensational! I knew all those body shots had to be taking their toll. Damn, that Margo has an anvil for a chin. Cotto has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. I clapped him out as he jogged toward the locker room waiving his fist in the air. What a warrior. I knew that if it went to the cards Cotto was gonna take it by UD, most likely. The kid was slippin' n' slidin'-whippin' and dippin' and taunted Margo's inferior speed at one point. Wow! I witnessed first-hand one that's gonna go down as a classic. Hellyeah!:happy

That was only after the two KD's. The fight was even coming on the 11th.

And that's part of the point I was tryin' to make on a post the other day in which I included a Hagler reference. Cotto's still a great champion who is also very human and is once again, for a nonfan like myself, something interesting. Cotto strikes me as the type of fighter that wil look at this fight as an opportunity to enrich himself and educe boxing skills to aid in his becoming champion again. Like I said, I can't get excited enough about the guy to consider myself a fan-but I have a tremedous amount of respect for him. I take my hat off to Miguel. Very few in the history of the sport could've taken all those body-shots better than he did tonight. Truly, an exceptional effort.

If Cotto had gone to the body early, like everyone had expected, he would have had a chance to pull out a close decision.

[Reposted from my post in Relentless' thread]

The reason why Cotto was going to the head and not the body was that he was fighting to survive, not to execute a gameplan.

That is, he was trying to make Margo respect him and not get walked through. Also, when you are on the back foot it is easier to land shots to your opponents head than to their body, as you are less far away from that target while bending backwards at the waist (think Vitali Klit's defense, the leaning back thing. It's a shorter distance to the opponent's head than to have to bend forward and go to the body while moving backward).

Cotto did everything he was able to, and he could have been gone in the 7th or 8th. There wasn't anything else he could have done, and I was surprised he lasted that long after being rocked in the 7th, I think it was.

i think Cotto wasnt able to go to the body b/c Marg did an excellent job covering up.

now that i think about it. perhaps margs plan was to allow cotto to t-off on his face b/c he knew he could take it. he didnt give cotto the opportunity to hit him in the body.

oh, and i dont know what the judges cards were. did they show them???

often people watchin on tv can see more that what judges see b/c IMO while Margarito was definitely pressuring, he wasnt landing anything truly significant the 1st 5 or 6 rounds. I had Cotto cleanly outboxing marg the 1st 6 rounds with maybe 1 round as an exceptioin.

but unlike many people, i'm not some biased fan who cant be objective. Good job to margarito. he won fair and square.

i still think Cotto wins a rematch if and only if he works on his stamina. he is going to have to spar 15 four minute rounds for his entire training camp.

i dont think he needs to work on anything except stamina.
